Okay so earlier I was feeling really nauseous so I took some unisom (Like it said to do in one of the posts somewhere on this board) and I feel better. Not completely better but better then I was before. Has anyone else tried this? It basically works by canceling out the nausea center of the brain (Also the sleep center so it makes you drowsy but I took it like an hour ago and I'm not drowsy) Anyway anyone else out there try it? It works!

I take it for my nausea too. Its safe during pregnancy. Glad it works.

A pharmacist told me Unisom SleepTabs are good for nausea, but not the gel kind.
-
I gave my husband Unisom when he had the sv* this weekend and he still
v*- FYI
-
It's an antihistamine-most of them will work for nausea.
Unisom, Benadryl, Dramamine...Phenergan is an antihystamine, and I swear by it.
The OTC ones are just weaker.

lgood2573,
How long did your husband keep the Unisom down? I heard this is really supposed to help with nausea and v*.
-
ive heard that if the person is indeed struggling with v* or heavy n*...that
the unisom will only work if the capsules are broken up and mixed with a
warm flat cola(coke)....
swallowing the actual pill doesnt do the trick...

Be sure to get the unisom that have doxylamine succinate....those are the ones that are supposed to help with nausea.

100mg B6 is good to take with the unisom. B6 is good for nausea.
I doubt it can always stop v* because if your body really needs to v* it will since it is a reflex action.
You can take 2 Unisom's at once too. Yes, get the doxylamine succinate...not the diphenhyadramine.Edited by: madisonsmom

I gave my hubby both the unisom with the doxy and a drammamine at the
same time. I guess if it's gonna happen, it's gonna happen. I took the
same thing and I did not V*

I am pregnant and having sleeping problems so my doctor told me it was safe to take Unisom - this is good to know that it also works well for n* as I did not know that. Thanks for the information, when I'm feeling sick again I'll try it and see what happens. Doesn't it make you drowsy though as it is actually a sleep aid?
-
Yes - it will make you drowsy. But when I'm feeling that way all I want is to go to sleep so I don't know it! I think pretty much all those types of meds make you drowsy. I have a Rx for phenargan and for Tigan. The Tigan isn't as bad but the phenargan will knock me out.

Isn't that funny?
I can function on Phenergan if I'm moving around, for about 3 hours...then I have to nap for an hour or so.
It affects everyone differently, I suppose.
-
yeah phenegran definitely never "knocks me out"...
-
I was on phenergan like a year ago or so and it never made me tired. Unisom doesn't make me tired either. The only thing that really makes me tired are my usual meds (Zoloft and Zyprexa) but I take them at night before I go to bed so that really doesn't effect me during the day.

That is so funny. It doesn't knock me out right away but after an hour or so I'm in dreamland. Now, if I'm really stressing, it doesn't work sowell. But if I take it because I am feeling mildly nauseated or have a migraine, zzzzzzzzzzz. And I'm not awake in an hour. Unisom definitely makes me sleepy too. Funny how meds affect people differently.
