Guys...I am broke and I dont wnt to buy my dinner at work tonight. All I have is peanutbutter and jelly but the other day I had left the jelly out of the fridge for about a day and a half. Do you think it's still okay to eat? I hate when i forget to put stuff in the fridge.....
-
I honestly don't know. We cleaned the fridge out last weekend, and found some "chunky" jelly... so we threw it out... maybe you can look it up online.. or perhaps (lol) the jelly hasan 800 number to call.
At anyrate.. maybe you could have a PB and butter or something else sandwich...
When I was a frosh in colege.. we would put butter on two peices of bread and call it a "wish I had a sandwich".. I can totally empathize w/ being broke..

In the last 10-15 years, the jelly & jam jars began to say
"Refigerate after opening" on them. The risk is that like any kind of
preserve or fruit etc is that it can get moldy. Prior to this, a lot of
people kept their jams and jellies outside of the fridge and in all
likelyhood the jelly should be fine if only left out for a short period
but it's not a great idea IMO. Some things get moldy really fast such
as tomato sauce. Even in the fridge it gets moldy. I called Ragu once
and they said to only keep opened jars of sauce for 10 days which came
as a surprise to me.

Thanks guys... I guess I could take the chance with the jelly, right? Whats the worst thing that could happen? d* maybe? Tayda-- I think your advise is awesome. I am gonna make a peanutbutter and honey sandwich...I like them better than PB and J anyhow!
You guys are the best! Thanks!
-
I don't know why an emetophobe would "take a chance" when can't you
just go get an unopened jar? A non- ephobe would take a chance but
someone who would rather go for a swim in hot lava than v*, would use
the honey instead. Look for mold in it and make your decision. Like I
said, i'd bet money on it that you'll be fine but if it's going to make
you worry for the next 3 days then its worth the 80 cents to go buy a
new jar or try to choke down a PB & honey sandwich.
-
Damn! where do you buy your jelly! 80 cents? I wish!!!...I have to buy the sugarfree kind.
The verdict is PB and honey. Yum!
-
It should be ok...i've done that very thing many times (leaving jelly out overnight). I'm sure in time it would go bad, but not overnight. :-)
Hey i can relate..."BROKE" is my middle name hehe!!
Paula
-
Thanks meercat. And seriously... Where do you find 80 cent jelly because wherever you find that...other cheap stuff must be around and that is MY middle name! CHEAP!!
-
i leave jelly out all the time and then eat it and i have been just fine
-
When I go traveling or on camping trips or just for emergency storm
preparation, I buy the smallest, cheapest jars of jelly I can find
because the jars say to refrigerate after opening. And it just so
happens that they are the generic store brand of jelly. They are 79
cents a jar. Or at least they were. I think they might be 89 cents a
jar now. I eat a lot of PB&J because it's quick & easy &
cheap so I know good jelly when I taste it. This jelly is a little on
the grape-juicy side but it does the trick. They have huge jars for
only $1.59 Normally though I buy the biggest jars of Welches or
Smucker's jelly for about twice the price. Sometimes I have
bought JAM by mistake and I don't like the taste of grape jam as much
as grape jelly but I find that it gives me more energy.
-
Thanks Brina85-- I think that's what I wanted to here!

-
I'm sorry - I had to post on this one!
Peanut butter and jelly is so stereotypically American!!!! It's funny!
I cannot imagine anything more foul on my sandwich. I think I would
rather eat it dry!
What is the appeal? ? ?
-
Haha! thats great! Honestly I wouldn't eat PB and J for the longest time ' cause once I v'ed from drinking grapejuice and eating choc. chip cookies. (What kind of nursery school gives that as a snack!) So i wouldn't ingest anything that was grape flavored. I guess us crazy americans could say the same thing about brits! haha, I'm part scotish and I will never understand haggis!!! EW!
-
I absolutely agree with you there, Beadgirl.
Haggis is a strange concept!! (Not that I've ever tried it!)
-
Pretty Polly- I've never been a big fan of PB And J myself. I prefer PB and Banana's or PB and honey. Honey never expires...did you know that? It may crystalize but you can fix that problem by putting the bottle in warm water (Or at least that's what I heard)
~Monica
-
YEAH MONICA PB and HONEY ROCKS!
-
Pretty Polly, You know we aren't talking about what you guys call jelly, right? (That's JELLO to us!) Now, THAT would be gross! A PB and jello sandwich!!
Mary :)
-
Mary - I admit, I am slightly confused!
What do mean by jelly then? I did think you meant what we call jelly
- you know that wobbly stuff that tastes like sh*t!!!
I stand corrected if you mean something different!
-
LOLOL @ you guys!!
Noooooo our jelly is NOT jello!! heheh EWWWWW that would be gross with peanut butter haha! Our jell is also known as JAM, or fruit preserves...you know what that is right?
Beadgirl...Heck, you can buy cheap jelly at dollar stores! Even grocery market brands or generic brands are either less than or JUST over a dollar Gotta love them cheapo brands LOL!! I'll eat anything hehehesnort! Who needs Smuckers or Allfruit...they all taste the same to meeee!
-
oh my god... i never knew jelly in england was jello! grape jam! hahaha..
-
Well ok if you are talking about Jam (which I thought you were) then we keep ours out of the fridge all the time and I've never been ill, I'm sure the sugar that goes into it would preserve it right?
-
goodlord, I hope.... Okay guys...Next time I try to eat it, I will let you know what happens. I already ate mayo that had a "best by" date of oct 2005 and I was fine! Yay for ME!
-
Actually, here in the US we have an equal number of jars labeled "Jam"
and "Jelly". Not to be confused with Gelatin, a popular brand of
gelatin being Jello.
Jam is made from grape preserves while jelly is made from grape juice
according to the labels. Which is probably why I get more energy from
eating jam but the jelly tastes better.
-
what about PB and fluff....
( bananas are good also.. but i like bananas w/ pb only.. i used to hate those until I got preggo.. and now I do... wierd)

what exactly is vegemite? I've heard of vegimite on crackers w/ beer. SOunds kinda gross... but what is it? When I was in the fourth grade, we had a new girl come to our school.. her name was simone.. and well she spoke funny (IMO.. cause I was a kid).. either way we became friends and used to hang out.. and I was at her house.. and they had that stuff.. they offered it.. but i was like no thanks... but never asked what it was...
Either way they moved to the US from austrailia
