I overcame emetophobia completely after 40 years!

Hi,

I struggled with emetophobia for forty years and it affected every part of my life! I overcame it completely with The Thrive Programme by Rob Kelly. There is a specific programme called 'Cure your emetophobia and Thrive' which is evidence based and has loads of research to back it up. I tried so many different treatments and therapies before this but nothing worked for me. That's fantastic Claire, I'm very happy for you. I keep thinking about the Thrive book but you wouldn't believe what a ditherer I am (and cynical). I just can't really believe that Thrive will work for me. Did it take a lot of time and hard work? Are you completely 'normal' now?

This is amazing! Congratulations!
I have this phobia since age 10 or 9, but nothing changed. I really thought about buying the book, but I live in Slovakia and I speak hungarian and I fear it won't work because I can' understand everything in the book. What do you think, can it work for me?

I am working through the programme now and it is amazing how quickly it starts to have an effect. I am only on chapter 6, but I am already starting to notice the difference and have started to be able to work on the way I think about things. It is not just helping me with my phobia it has helped with other habits and unhelpful thinking. For example, unlike a lot of emetophobics I DO like a drink. I am a red wine and vodka (not together) fan. I had been thinking that I was drinking a little more and a little more often than I should. I wanted to cut back because of health and weight issues. After reading the first four chapters and doing all the thinking and exercises, I found I had control and I now pick and choose whether and when to drink and it feels REALLY good.
AND even though my phobia is not yet cured - I am not yet half way through the book - not that I have finished chapter 5 I actually believe I WILL be cured. I have not believed that at ANY time in my life until now. I am 53 and have been phobic as long as I can remember!

Are you working through Thrive? I am finishing up my last session with a therapist in London. Love the book..completely changed my outlook on several aspects of my life. Like you, I did not have all the "typical characteristics" of a emet. I too don't avoid drinks, etc. GOOD LUCK.

Congratulations :) I just purchased my copy of Thrive and can't wait for it to arrive in the mail! I hope it has the same eefect for me as it did for you. I'm tired of living with emetophobia!
