  1. CBT/Exposure therapy helping! I stayed in the house w/ sick folks last night...

...for the first time since childhood.

I've had emetophobia since before I could walk but have been doing the whole "staying outside for the night no matter the weather or risk of abduction"...

Is Exposure Therapy the ONLY Way?

I keep hearing that phobias are highly treatable & respond well to therapy...but I just can't see myself doing exposure therapy even with a great therapist. I have somewhat of a photographic memory...

Poll: Re: Did you throw up in 2017?

lol. This is a great poll. I believe my last true V* was in college circa 2005 after drinking a ton of Southern Comfort (never again). It was an all-night affair. Haven't touched alcohol in any...
  4. Dad Has D* & Nausea from Lettuce; Mom Is Threatening To Take Me to Psych Ward :(

...because I'm freaking tf out. We just got over a nasty 2-week cold virus (well, I'm not over it yet) and I handled that really well. Today my dad came in pacing after eating lunch & is having...
  5. Re: Noro "Epidemic" Has Hit My Small Town; Too Cold to Sleep Outside. Help?

    Thanks! :)

Unfortunately, no. Used to go to my grandma's house but she's gone. I've packed up all my stuff "just in case" I need to go to the car. We have a barn...maybe that'd be warmer. ...
  6. Noro "Epidemic" Has Hit My Small Town; Too Cold to Sleep Outside. Help?

People are posting on Facebook about how their entire families have the stomach bug within the last couple days. My family insists on eating out at our local restaurants almost daily & I'm...
  7. Rare Occasion: Dad's Sick. Stomach Bug or Food Poisoning?

My dad has only v*'ed one other time in my life (when I was three; yes, I remember it clearly lol). Today he came home from eating at a restaurant in town & said his back was killing him. That...

    Re: OTC anxiety meds?

In some countries you can buy benzodiazepines (Xanax, Valium, etc) over the counter. Unfortunately, all we have are antihistamines in the U.S. Dramamine (dimenhydrinate) is a good anti-emetic, as...

Poll: Re: Do you eat seafood?

Yessss! Shrimp, crab and lobster are my all-time faves. No raw shellfish or sushi though. That's just asking for trouble. Cooking food helps kill any viruses AND bacteria that might be present. ...
  10. Hanging Out W/ Someone Who Had Noro 3 Days Ago. Questions.

The girl in question is not still sick, but she sure was on Tuesday. (She passed the illness to another one of our friends, who will not be attending tonight). :(

    What precautions should I take...
  11. Re: Ate Piece of Fish That Was Cold in the Middle. Scared.

Ahhh, thanks for the reassurance! I'm still feeling fine, minus the anxiety.

ConAgra was involved in a food poisoning scandal with their chicken TV dinners, so they do slap that warning on...
  12. Ate Piece of Fish That Was Cold in the Middle. Scared.

The piece of fish was a breaded pollock patty in a TV dinner. The package says "Cook Thoroughly" and tells you to use a food thermometer to make sure it's done, which makes me think the fish was raw...

Re: Do you fear/phobia of D*

Yes, but only if I think it's contagious and will cause nausea. I have IBS and sometimes get random bouts of d* that are accompanied by anxiety and hot flashes. So if I'm the one having it, it does...

    Re: Purell Advanced Kills Noro

Awesome! I'd still wash with soap and water whenever possible just to be safe. But it's good to find products that kill the evil virus that's so hardy. I'd love to see a list of hygiene/cleaning...
  15. Re: How often have you disappointed someone due to anxiety/fear?

Often. My gf is understanding but even she gets frustrated sometimes. I swear off restaurants from November through April, which limits what I can do with people. If someone was recently sick, I...
  16. Re: Pregnant and terrified of morning sickness!!

Luckily, not everyone gets morning sickness and there are many amazing treatments if you do. Ginger root is safe for all stages of pregnancy, but there's also Zofran if you need something stronger. ...

    Re: SV Season...in the Spring?

Thank you for the hugs, Syrup! It really has sucked being so paranoid and fearful since I got sick. I keep telling myself it only happened once out of all the times I've gone home, but you know how...

    Re: SV Season...in the Spring?

Thanks, Melekeh! I freaked out all winter and basically became a shut-in, knowing that it would all be over by Spring. No such luck.

I'll be traveling to Oklahoma, which is where all the sicky...

    Re: inheriting a phobia

I heard an interview on NPR with an emetophobe who passed the fear on to his daughter despite NEVER letting her see him panic. His book discusses inherited phobias in more depth, but I haven't read...
  20. Re: Im having surgery and Im more worried about getting sick with anesthesia! !!

Never had anesthesia myself, but this is a fear for me too. I always assumed it was the narcotic pain meds that caused nausea rather than the anesthesia itself? (Plus riding in a car is terribly...

    SV Season...in the Spring?

I know noro can happen at any time, but the CDC states that it peaks during the December-February period. However, I'm seeing multiple "stomach bug" posts on Facebook this week. It's really...

    Re: Leery to eat much...

Bland foods and smaller meals are the way to go. I also avoid soda, beer and anything carbonated since it makes gas 10x worse. Feel better!
  23. Re: More Anxiety than I know what to do with

Hate that feeling! Anxiety-induced nausea is almost worse than that caused by actual illness. Feel better!

    Re: Feeling constant fear!

It's always in the back of my mind but gets much worse during norovirus season. Seeing Facebook posts and news reports about sick people just ramps the fear up so much.
