    Dear Everyone,

Yes, I know, we've been over it a million times, but as my thoughts turn to Winter, I begin to worry about noroviruses.

Yes, I have read the Alvin stuff, which is fantastic and helps so much to dispell the myths and fears. Can I just check with everyone that these are the facts -

    * You can't inhale it, you would have to ingest (swallow) the v* or d* or by eatingfood someone with bad hygeine has prepared.

    * You can prevent infection by washing your hands with soap and water after using the toilet and before eating / touching your eyes or nose.

    * If someone in your house has an sv, it does not automatically mean you will catch it - you just have to practise good hygeine, make sure they have their own towel, use bleach, etc.

    . . . ok . . . so that all makes sense. It's true. Hope so. Juuust panicking . . . breathe slowly . . .

But what about the contagious two day / week thing?

And whats the name of the anti-emetic you can buy over the counter in the UK? Immodium? No, wait, that's for d* isn't it?

So sorry for panicking, hope I can get some reassurance and help others who are probably also thinking / worrying ahead!

    Love from Laura

PS - I have a pain in the lower right side of my back, sometimes at both sides. It's not to do with v*, but I'm scared it could be a kidney problem - does anybody know?! Got Drs appointment, but nottil two weeks time

Hey. Im sorry your back is hurting, it could be kidneys, if it gets any worse is there an emergancy doctors you can go to??.

Im not sure how long sv are around for, but like alvin said, do all that stuff to prevent getting it. I always thought you get it by breathing in, but i was wrong, so all my life when my mums been ill i won't go near her in case i breath in the same air. Also the anti-emetic over the counter is called motilium, or i have this one called bucastem (sp) which you put under your gum insted of having to swallow it. I hope your side is ok. Take care.

    Thanks Ruth!

I totally agree, I used to worry about the whole inhaling germs thing too, so it was so liberating to read that you need to actually ingest sum to have any chance of getting ill. Thanks about the Bucastem . . .think I might have seen it next to the Immodium when I was trying to look, lol! Will ask next time I'm in chemist.

thanks about the kidney thing too. It's a bit better - I have been eating lots of adzuki beans, which are meant to be "a tonic for the kidneys"!! Seem to have worked a bit, less pain, not been needing to take pain-killers as much. Looked up symptoms on internet, but that was probably a dumb thing to do - no further forward and much more confused!

But yeah, you replied to my other post didn't you? About the anorexia. That is why I am particularly worried - I had this same pain 3 years ago, but it went away. Hope it's not too late to fix things. It sounds stupid, but sometimes you need that scare for it to feel real - I'm sure I can still do some good though by looking after myself now. It has really made me think about my long-term health implications - I'm only 22, so I don't want to be falling apart already!

Sorry, anyway, thankyou for your posts

    Love from Laura

Are you asking if there are germs outside when you run?

Because if so, the answer is No.

You know actually, I think there might be less germs outside than inside. Think about it. In the cold weather everyone stays inside more often. So there's more people packed into buidlings, they bring their germs inside with them, and a lot of the germs stay trapped inside too.

Of course the cold can also make your immune system slightly more vulnerable, and cold weather can irritate your throat and such.

    Both are a trade off.

    Hi,

The place they've read the "facts" about noroviruses is on the 'Questions and Answers' section, sticky post at the top that's entitled "An Expert answers your questions...." Check it out and read the whole thread carefully. You'll be a lot better informed and should feel more calm.

There aren't any germs "outside" or "inside" that can cause you to get noroviruses, because they don't travel through the air. You can only get the virus from a PERSON or something they've recently touched or contaminated.
