If chlorine is maintained in a pool properly, it will kill all living things that exist in small particles - norovirus, e-coli, whatever. It's perfectly safe unless some fool doesn't maintain the proper levels. E-coli is the worst problem if this happens - and some small children have died from pool water being not properly maintained. But in public pools they have regular schedules of checking the chemical levels throughout the day, and adding whatever they need, so you don't need to worry about a public pool.
