    Hi there

Just a quick question. Which are the best and most effective anti emetics to take? And are they all prescription?

I went to the pharmacy on Wed because i had a bit of a scare whilst at uni (heard my friend was ill with a SV back home on Tues and i'd seen her on the Sunday). Over the top iknow but i got really panicked. Anyway when i got to the pharmacy i didnt know what to say so i made up that i'd been feeling n* and felt like i wanted to v* for the past few days and the nurse at uni had told me to come to the pharmacy and ask for anti emetics. Anyway she said they had only Motilium which is over the counter but they had run out, and that the majority are on prescription so i'd have to see my doctor.

I was just wondering, what do i say to my doctor? surely he wouldnt waste medication on me just because im scared it MIGHT happen. Any advice much appreciated. Thanks.

i have mine from my gp .. buti did have to tell the truth as to why i needed them ... most gps are pretty good about it .. just tell them how your feeling and how you feel when faced with the possibility of being ill if need be print off some info from the net to help them understand if there not to sure

hope that helps and good luck let us know how you get on if you do go to the doctors

Phenegren. I believe it is OTC in the UK. Works really well, but does make you sleepy!

Tigan-it is prescription only, but works amazingly well. It has valium in it to ease the panic attacks along with a pretty powerful anti-emetic. bit pricey, though.

I found this med b/c I had an allergic reaction to phenergan...horrible allergy for an emet.

I just explained the phobia to my doc, and she keeps me a steady supply. Odd though, the more I have in the bottle-the less I need them.

I live in the US, and Phenergan is what doctors prescribed most often (I know because of my career). You can buy it over-the-counter in the UK as a motion sickness medication. It just makes you groggy.

Phenergan or Motillium, and recently I got Sominex as the pharmacy had run out of Phenergan, they asked why I wanted it and i said for anxiety and they recommendedSominex.

I believe it has the same major ingrediant.

I was going through my medicine cabinent the other night and found my drammamine that I had bought earlier this year before I went on a plane for the first time...I never took it though! LOL I was reading the outside of the tube and it said antiemetic!! I was stunned as I didn't even know that word until I found this site!! I also had a box of bonine that said to be careful if take tranquilizers....does that mean xanax?? and is that also true for drammamine??? Just curious.
I CAN get through this! ♥Melanie♥

my mother is an RN at a University Hospital, and learned that Benedryl has a component (Diphenhydramine) which helps aid in N* (and this ingrediant is quite common in popular anti-emetic drugs)

Personally, I think it helps..plus, benedryl makes me ridiculously tired so I fall asleep and am no longer in panic mode. But of course, I keep ACTUAL prescribed anti-emetics on hand as well, just in case.

Zofran melt-tablets (which are reaaaally expensive) and also phenegren.

I keep a running prescription of Compazine that works wonders for me. My doctor gives me refills on it when ever I need it. I got that because about 8 years ago I had a really bad bout with my emet and got down to a size 0-1 from a size 6. It was really bad, because I would always feel n*, and they tested me for every disease under the sun and couldn't find anything, and then one gastro specialist said that I was anorexic, so my doctor gave me Compazine and I've been using it ever since.

I know this is from months ago- but in a pinch, dramamine is an antiemetic, as well as bonine. never heard of the benedryl thing ...but very interesting. I actually asked for mine from my gp in suppository form b/c I am too chicken to swallow pills ( afraid they are going to make me throw up!!!) Hmmmm I know, crazy.... afraid to throw up from an anti-nausea pill? Thats how petrified I am

I take Stemetil (prochlorperazine) works well for me. My GP is happy for me to have a supply for emergencies. Does make me feel tired for about 24 hours after taking it.

I used to take metaclopromide but now I take something called domperinone or something (spelling is probably wrong but it sounds like sparkly wine). It worked a treat for me when I felt pretty sick the other week when I had a temperature. Luckily my mum is a nurse and I make sure she brushes up on her anti-emetic knowledge. Stematil is also good if you've got nausea and a headache/dizziness.

I have phenergan, zofran tablets and melt tabs, reglan and dramamine. I also have some tigan suppositories that were prescribed for my son like in 1997. Probably should trash those. Anyway, I obviously have quite the array of anti-emetics, however I don't used them hardly ever. I may take 3 a year. Literally. My anxiety is not a problem until I get to the point of saliva in my mouth. Then I COMPLETLY GO BERZERK and probably come close to an overdose to not throw up. I have taken like 4 phenergan and 3 zofran before all within like a 2 hour time frame. No joke. I am either fine with no anxiety or pushing killing myself not to v*.
