Sooo.... I have become addicted to Chai Latte and pick one up for myself many mornings on my way to work. Well, this morning I didn't have time for breakfast so I also picked up a spinich and artichoke soufle to eat when I got to work. The soufle was good, but a little undercooked- which made it runny or goopy in the middle instead of fluffy and nice. But, it was still yummy- so I continued to eat it. Then I came across a big chunk of something. I figured it was a large piece of artichoke- but it wasn't. It was a chunk of chicken!!! Chicken isn't supposed to be in there. Why was chicken in there? I suppose it will be fine- since the soufle is made of egg, I am sure it wasn't old- or at least I hope not. I'm just a little weirded out by the chicken. I am funny about the meat I eat. But I didn't even eat it. I discarded it and ate the rest of the soufle.

Anyone have any ideas about why the hell there was chicken in there? Anyone work in the food industry and can assure me that more than likely it wasn't old rotten chicken? See, I am concerned that it was old or spoiled and the bacteria could have left the chicken and gone into the egg stuff that I ate. Okay.. This does not sound logical- I uderstand that. I am just finding myself obsessing over the situation so I thought I would ask for input.

Where did you buy it from a resturant? A grocery store? I have worked
in food service many of times...and all I can say is if its a
resturant, and they serve chicken in something else, someone could have
been careless when mixing your soufle and then they cooked it and out
comes a chicken contaminated soulfe. I dont think you will get sick,
but i would complain and let them know, because it is still gross. Try
not to panic. If it is from a grocery store and it wasn't made at the
store...then its kinda a different story, because it was probably made
on a production line or even with machines...your sure it was chicken?

last month I found a piece of CALAMARI in my potato skins. YETCH!!! I don't like calamari or anything seafood, actually except mild fish like halibut or salmon. So I'm eating a potato skin with bacon, cheese and onion and there's an OCTOPUS in it. I couldn't believe it.

I'm sure it's not old rotton chicken. They probably made some souffles with chicken and some with spinach and a piece got mixed up.

P.S. I'm totally addicted to chai lattes too! They're lovely!

I witnessed a girl eating a muffin at school one day. She bit into the muffin and found a staple in it. She then continued to eat it, and then bit into another staple. First of all, how the heck did staples end up in muffin batter? Secondly, why would you keep eating it?!? She threw it out. If it were me, I would have taken it back to the place I bought it, along with the staples!

That's gross, very gross but probably not bad for you. I would be a little irratated. I would probably throw it at them and tell them I was horribly allergic to poultry and their carelessness could have gotten me killed.

new.slang, since it's a soufle and has egg i don't think i could have said i was allergic to poultry. or could i? thanks for responding.

Oh, you got it from Panera? I used to work there about 4 years ago. It was a nice place to work. They didn't have souffles when I worked there. But, anyway, I know that the sandwich station has condiments in separate compartments--but they are all put in this big cooler-type thing (like Subway looks). It's very easy to accidently spill while you're making it. Especially if they were busy at the time. It was probably a piece from their chicken salad or something. I'd accidentally drop one condiment into another condiment all the time. Usually, I caught it though.

When you eat out, there is that risk--especially if you have allergies. I would imagine that with food allergies, it would be hard to eat out. A lot of different food is cooked on the same grill and gets cross-contaminated. I feel bad for those with food allergies.

Anyway, glad to hear you're all right!

Hmmm....good point. I'm not sure, I just always try to think of creative ways to complain.
