Well I think most of you hate eating out and especially at unknown
places. I do too. But sometimes things happen and you are forced to go
somewhere, like during birthdays, work meetings and so on. Tonight I
must go to some restaurant with my bf's family because it's his
grandmother's birthday I am scared
already. Anyway, I want to ask you guys, what do you do in the
situations like this? What should I do? We are going to some unknown
restaurant, it's so far away, in the nature and it's already almost
winter, so I am sure people go there very rarely which makes the
restaurant unpopular so I am scared that the food might be bad or
something. I would like to be there but not to eat somehow. Should I
lie that I have no appetite? I know this is crazy but I always feel
fear of lying that I am sick because I think then I really might become
sick..that's so silly. What else the reason for only drinking tea
during the birthday might be? What lies do you tell if you do?

Thanks

You only live once

I've been in a situation like this before. We went into this strange restaurant where I got an uncomfortable feelingfrom it. I didn't feign loss of appetite, because I didn't want to seem rude, so instead I ordered the most plainest thing on the menu which at the time was a salad. I asked for no tomatoes, cucumber, nothing, just got a bowl of lettuce. Even went as far as to not use their salad dressing since it felt warm so I gave that wide berth and just shoveled the greens in my mouth completely dry. Other than the blank stares from everyone around the table, no one questioned.

That's what I usually do when feeling uneasy about a restaurant.

Hope things work out.

I used to get so panicky and nervous about eating a meal out I literally could not eat. Every morsel had to be forced down. I have used excuses for not eating much or at all before, usually saying I have an upset stomach so don't want to make it worse by eating too much.

I rarely get panicky about eating out now (thank goodness), but if I'm not feeling too sure I'll stick to bland or foods I think will be safest to eat. I'm a vegetarian but if I did eat meat I'd probably not choose that if I was unsure of the restaurant, and would probably stick to something like a veggie pasta, salad, potato dish or sandwiches.

I'm sure you will be just fine - try and enjoy yourself!

If I'm not sure of a place, I order something that I know no one had to touch it with there hands. Fries, onion rings...mostly deep fried things. They are dumped into a frier, and its not like they reach there hand in there to get it out...I am not a fan of the whole salad thing, my sister got fp from a salad but it had chicken on it, but I still refuse to eat a salad. Also, I think soup is a safe food, Lemon rice usually something w/out meat. And even though they gotta touch it, you can't go wrong with a grilled cheese. You wont get sick from bread and cheese!!
