I mentioned this within a one of my post but was worried not all would see it.

This stuff works folks and is the only product I know of that kills Noralk (Norovirus). Even Lysol can not kill Norwalk and bleach alone does not kill it in full. As you know, Norwalk is the leading viral cause of sv* in schools, hospitols, crusie ships and in the work place. Tell Norwalk to "Bite Me" by getting this stuff!

I make my son carry one with him..I keep a bottle at the office, at home and in the car.

    Good health to all!

    Thanks John -

I just ordered some. I got two of the gels. Hope it works. It's a little expensive at $9.75/bottle, but if it prevents one sv* it's worth hundreds to me. Now that I know regular handsanitizers are ineffective against sv*, I find them worthless. I can handle a cold - but I'll do everything to avoid the sv!!

After viewing their website, this product seems a little too good to be true. So, I did some searching and came up with this:

    http://www.fda.gov/foi/warning_letters/g5854d.htm

Apparently this company recieved a warning letter from the FDA stating that the claims they are makingon their website have not been backed up. Maybe just another scam?

Yeah, it doesn't mean that it doesn't work or that their claims are bogus. I guess they just didn't go through the necessary steps to get approval from the FDA. So, who knows!!!

Last year I signed up to be a distributor in Texas but when my mom was diagnosed with Ovarian cancer I had to focus my spare time in caring for her. The owner of the USA distibutorship talk with me at length about the product. i am a skeptic but what he provided me in documentatin convinced me that it was good stuff.

I am glad that hiku25 brought that up. I like knowing there are resouceful folks on this board!

I've been using it for over a year and at least I know that it does not eat my flesh or anything bad! LOL!

There is a site that has a sanitizere that does kill norwalk BUT it isn't on th emarket yet it is going through the FDA or whatever. You can see news reports of it if you go to yahoo and typ ein hand sanitizer that kill snorwalk virus. I wrote the guy and asked about it, and he said it isn't on th emarket quite yet, but they have a hand sanitizer out that is approved for killing the flu and staph and some food poisonings I think, called safe4hours? Anyways I will be waiting for the other one to come on th emarket but as for antiseptic- I don't trust it either, I don't think it works

Bummer. I guess I got excited and jumped the gun. John, do you know what the effective ingredient in it is? Maybe Alvin could tell us if it does or doesn't work against the norwalk virus.

Sorry for the delay, I was out of town for the Holidays.

    The active ingedients are:

    54.1% m/m Ethanol

    10.0% m/m Isopropanol

Interestingly enough, I just realized that they changed the name from Vira Guard to Vira Block.

I know the FDA gets "pissy" about certain things, but all I know is that I can atribute what I think is great protection from sv* and other illnesses from this stuff. Placebo? Maybe but I sure the hell will not take chances! I hope it works for you all to!

I have been researching Norwalk on the CDC's website for some time now. I used to be a crusier until the outbreaks started. I was mortified at what I last read. One ship was sprayed down and given the seal of approval by the CDC before the next passengers got on. The following cruise came down with it. I don't know what could kill this stuff. I guess it's hard to say if maybe the outbreak was from a sick employee who continued to work or what. It is scarry. I believe that it spreads so quickly because of buffets and probably the on-board casino. It's funny becausethepast couple of years they have been talking about outbreaks in Las Vegas at some of the big casinos. You have to think that having buffets and casinos in common on bothships and hotels would ring a bell. I am a retired nurse and we used to use something called Steri-phene. I am new to this website so I don't know what all you guys have discussed. I know that it is used in hospitals and doctors office's to kill everything. We use it at school as well. It seemed to do the trick for us.

    Kayron,

Is this in the US or UK. Is it available to the general public or medical staff? Any website info?

It is made by Spartan. I looked on their website. Looking on the labels of some of their products they are virucidal. The attached info in blueis on the label information. I can't imagine that if it can kill the AIDS virus and tuberculosis that it couldn't kill norwalk. It kills MRSA which can hardly be killed because it is resistant to everything. I am not sure what VRE is. I am going to look it up. It looks viral. We have a local place where I live that is a chemical store. They sell to big companies but have a store front. You can walk in and buy from them. You may have one in your area. If not, you could check on Spartan's website to see if they sell to consumers. I believe it is made in the US.

    Brand Disinfectant Deodorant. Clean, Fresh
    Fragrance. Tuberculocidal. Bactericidal, Fungicidal, Virucidal,
Kills HIV-1 Type 1 (AIDS Virus), HBV Virus, Herpes simplex Type 2 and Influenza A/J305. Effective against MRSA and VRE.
    EPA Reg. No. 5741-22.

    Hi Kayron,

Is this product for sanitizing hands? If so, is it hard on your hands?

For cleaning I purchased Virkon. It has Alvin's "seal of approval" for killing noroviruses. I believe it is make in the UK somewhere. But, due to the bird-flu it is on back order. Dupont distributes it inthe US. But, I couldn't find a way to order it. I FINALLY found some on Ebay sold by Hamby Dairy Supply in Maysville, MO. (Ironically, 5 miles from my dad's house - small world!) Hamby Dairy Supply has a web site too it's http://hambydairysupply.com/xcart/home.php. They don't know anything about emet, but the same stuff that they use for cleaning dairies, vet's offices & other farm related things is also effective in cleaning anything contaminated with norovirus.

I've been cleaning with baby wipes actually & then spraying with the virkon. So far so good.

I bought their product and loved it!

I make my husband carry it in his briefcase (he shakes a lot of hands) and spray the kids before they go to school.

I figure that is a lot cheaper than them getting sick.

Did some research on them, they actually post their tests..don't see sanatizers doing that!

    Stay well!

Actually bleach does kill it. Bleach kills any virus or for that matter anything.

The CDC recommends the use of chlorine bleach (a bleach solution of water and bleach) to disinfect for a norovirus outbreak. Actually they use this for anything...Edited by: madisonsmom

Bleach is ok for surfaces...but not on your skin!!!

Vira-Block is a Hand & Skin Antiseptic, not for surfaces.

If you spray their hands before school, is it made to act as a barrier all day or does it wash off when they wash their hands?
