hi guys, at the supermarket today (morrisons) i was looking through the instant hand sanitisers, and i found one called "quash" it contains benzalkonium chloride, i was just wondering is that the ingrediant that kills noro or have i got it wrong? none of the others had this ingrediant in.. anybody know??

The ingredient that kills norovirus is "benzethonium chloride", not "benzalkonium chloride." Having said that, I have no idea what benzalkonium chloride IS (chemically) so...another Alvin question. He's swamped at school just now with his Masters' thesis...but I'll get back to you.

I've been dying to know that difference between benzethonium chloride and benzalkonium chloride for ages! I see benzalkonium chloride in everything these days. I mostly just wash my hands, but like to have a sanitizer on hand for in between classes I teach, when I don't have time to run to the bathroom. I'm looking forward to hearind what Alvin has to say, Sage

He's looking into it - but has to see the molecular structure first. Also there's a question about some "Silver" product that he finds interesting but has to do some research on before commenting.
