I've seen some worry on the boards starting about the coming autumn and winter seasons and viruses. Someone did this a few years ago (sorry I don't remember who) and I felt it was time to do it again.

List what you LOVE about this coming time of year! Why should emet have the power to take away the positive things ... it already takes too much as it is.

OK so here's some of my favorite things about the autumn and winter seasons:

* spending time with family and friends I don't see much
* Thanksgiving
* Christmas
* the way the air smells
* baking delicious goodies
* decorating the Christmas tree
* Christmas lights
* hot chocolate
* warm sweaters
* changing leaves (even though we don't get much we get some)
* get togethers
* people somehow become a little friendlier
* holiday music (although some of the stations go OVER board and start way too early)
* New Year's kisses
* the crispness of the air
* cozy blankets
* joyful faces

OK there's plenty more but its a start!

Being able to go outside for more than 10 minutes without suffocating from the heat.

Christmas, New Years, Thanksgiving and such.
Sitting by a warm fire watching a movie or surfing the net.
Good idea SimplyMe we need to think of the positives as well as just "v* season"

to be honest, i really love everything except stupid germs and snow. i
hate snow. those two things aside, i love this season. it's after christmas
that i really hate. the winter then seams so bleak and long.

The only thing I like about the winter is when there is a heavy snow storm. Not like a messy slushy death fest, but that really quiet snow fall of huge white snowflakes falling. I love how silent the world outside gets, I like the gray color of the sky, and I love the clean smell of the air. When it snows like that I like to open up a window and stare at it and smell the air. I don't want to go outside because it's too cold and I don't want to mess up the snow with my foot prints.

Other than that I hate the cooler weather. I shiver so easily and so badly. I wear a ton of layers and still feel cold. I'm not too worried about illnesses though.

Aw...damned southern hemisphere. Christmas just isn't Christmas when it's 40C outside. And Melbourne winters are disgusting; it gets cold but doesn't snow. I figure that cold is only nice when it is snowing! prncesspnk, be grateful for it!

I was writing a nice reply to this the other night and then my computer crashed! So here goes again:

I quite like autumn but not so much winter, but I can also think of a few positive amidst all that rain, wind, ice, dark mornings etc:

- Hot chocolate
- Wearing warm woolly clothes and wrapping up
- Curling up in a warm duvet with a book
- Drinking port by a crackling log fire
- Bonfire night and sparklers
- Sticky toffee apples
- Halloween: always a good party!
- Good vegetables in season: PARSNIPS mmm, swede, sprouts, lots of apples and chestnuts and game and hot blackberry pies etc.
- Country sports: shooting, hunting, point-to-point racing, National Hunt racing: all good fun
- Woolly hats, scarves and gloves
- Baking lots of nice things, cake, cookies, brownies, in the kitchen while it's frosty outside
- SNOW (when it ever snows)
- Crisp, sunny, frosty mornings
- The colours of the autumn leaves: gold and red and orange and yellow...quite beautiful
- MULLED WINE, mmmm
- Christmas and the smell of pine trees
- New Year - another good excuse for a party
- Hot winter Pimms
- Ice skating
- Pretty light displays. My favourite are the trees along the South bank of the River Thames
- Winter clothes: I don't like exposing all that easily-burned flesh in the summer!

Having candles burning all day ( I don't do this in the summer)
Windows open in my house
My kids' faces on Christmas
Hey New Slang, we eat powdered sugar donuts on Christmas Day!
Not having to keep my toenails painted.
Fresh fallen snow
Boots
Flannel sheets

Reading other people's responses I realize that I forgot hot chocolate and fire place from my response. We have a real fire place in my house, not like a fake gas one, and I love when we use it in the winter. I love the smell of the wood burning and the sound of it crackling. Watching the flames is great, too. Also we cook things like beans, sausage, and bruschetta by the fire and they seriously taste about 1000 times better on an open fire.

As for hot chocolate ... YUM. What's not to love?
