i have an excellent psychologist. he specialises in trauma and anxiety. this phobia (amongst my other disorders) is killing me. it is ruining my life. we have decided something needs to be done about it to get past it.

he has suggested vomiting. he has consulted my gp and they are arranging to get some sort of emetic for me. i am petrified. and i just read the faq: do you need to vomit to be cured?. the answer was no. so now i am terrified that my psychologist is wrong and that vomiting really is as terrifying as i think it is and that if i do it, my life will become so bad that i will have to kill myself
(not a threat of suicide - just a big fear in my mind).
has anyone vomited - and found it survivable?

I was sick just recently (but it wasn't ''much'') and it wasn't terrifying like I thought it would be. Still scary and unpleasant and I hope it doesn't happen again for a looooong time, but..

You do NOT need to vomit to get over your fear. If you aren't willing to go through with doing that and are forced into being sick; it will only make this phobia worse. I think exposure to vomit is a much safer way to cure this fear. Watching videos of people being sick and/or hearing it etc...gradually working your way up to being able to sit and watch it without freaking out. I would question this doctors professionalism because it is NOT something you have to put yourself through.

I have to agree you do NOT need to vomit to get over the fear and feel
that this is not the route for helping you. It is very extreme and have read
just cannot remember where that someone did this form of exposure and
    1. did not cope with it and 2. did not make them any better. It is putting
yourself through needles extreme anxiety and stress.

If I were you I would reconsider and find someone who can work with you
on this in a better way as mentioned before starting out with basic
exposure doing baby steps as I have been in treatment for many months
with good progress but I don't need to vomit to get where I have got now.

Please sit down and make sure this is the route for you if not then don't
do it and maybe source some help from someone else.

When I\'m not in my right mind, my left mind gets pretty crowded.

i can watch videos of ppl being sick, in fact in terms of exposure im much better than i used to be but this thing still persists with avengence.

i would not really consider changing therapists. he's hugely experienced - one of the best in the country and i trust him with my life, really. i have seen many services and many therapists and only he has helped me to make progress.
iv talked about other options with him and even in my own head i think that this is my last resort but i am worried about coming out worse than i went in
