I was just wondering how many emets smoke. I'm a smoker but have
promised my fiance that the last day I will smoke is December 31st 2009.
She said she will not have a long term relationship with a smoker before
we moved in together and I agreed because I knew I was going to quit
smoking before I was 30 anyway (I'm 25) and I have gone three days with
out it a few months ago when I was trying to quit for her. Then I started
this huge fight with her because I said something along the lines of
"Cigarettes make me happier than you are right now" and well it was BAD.
The next day I went and bought a pack. I know I can do it, I know I can
but I am not looking forward to New Years (As fast as it's approaching) if I
DO successfully quit, I will be only the second person in my family to do
it. My dad smokes and both of my sisters smoke. My mom USED to smoke
but quit years ago. I have only seen her smoke once (She was WAY
stressed and asked me for a cigarette) Anyway the point of this post is to
ask if any of you are smokers, and if you're not I'd like to hear your
comments too!

Good for you! Yes my fiance says that you either house break a dog or you
don't. Such as the dog cannot pee on the carpet every once and a while and
it'll be okay. Just like, you either quit smoking or you don't. She said the
moment something stressful happens she's just not going to let me light up.
Which scares me cause like I know when something bad happens (ie a death
in the family) That's exactly what I'm gonna want to do and I don't know if I
can get through it. I have been smoking since I was 16 too and I can't even
remember what I did to relax before I started. It's gonna be so hard!

I'm 18, and I've smoked for 2(almost 3) years. I keep telling myself that after what I have runs out, I'm gonna start really cutting down. I usually smoke 1 or 2 packs a week, so it's really not that much, but I want to get down to maybe a 1/2 pack a week, then eventually quit all together.

QUESTION FOR EMET SMOKERS:

do you guys use sanitizer or wash your hands before you have a cigarette? I don't smoke a lot so I wash my hands every time. To me it's gross to touch the butt with dirty hands then put it in your mouth. sometimes I feel crazy for doing it, but do any of you guys do that too?

I don't smoke but my dad recently quit aften 40 years of smoking. He used Champix (think it's called something slightly different in the UK and USA) - Chantix? Anyhow, it's totally worked for him and I couldn't be prouder! My mum on the other hand is completely stubborn and smokes out of habit. She'll light up one after the other and not even realize she's doing it.

I smoke. I want to quit. I hate smoking yet I enjoy it at the same time. I never wash my hands before I smoke. But I really dont wash my hands as much as other emets. I quit smoking for 6 full days last month but couldn't take it any more. I do want to quit but it seems so hard.

It's going to be so hard for me to quit, I don't even know how to relax
without it. Ugh. I also don't wash my hands everytime before smoking cause
if I did I'd be in the bathroom 50% of the time. I NEVER bum cigs though, it
freaks me out to do that.

Thats just replacing one drug with another. I'm not sure that is a good idea. I would say chew gum. That has helped me in the past.

I smoke like ten to fifteen cigs a day. It depends how bored I get or how
stressed I am. It used to be a pack a day but I cut back a lot to live with my
fiance.

I have been a smoker since I was for 13 years
I quit cold turkey the day I found out I was pregnant and did not touch another until my daughter was 3 months old....I was not pleasant to live with in withdrawal and swore I would never smoke again...but after my daughter was born with pretty awful health issues (she v* up to 45 a times a day...) I am afraid the stress just made me crave it again...I wish I hadn't given in though...

I don't actually touch the tip of the cigarettes before putting it in my mouth because I am paranoid re the germs!! and yes I wash my hands

My mum is a smoker and she has never had even the slightest inclination to stop after 45 yrs of puffing away...doesn't even cross her mind

I'm a smoker, sometimes can smoke a full pack in a day...

I love smoking and sometimes it helps relax me.
Sometimes it bothers my stomach, so I don't smoke for
awhile.

I also use it as an excuse to "get away" for a few minutes.

Say, at a function, standing around not feeling well
mingling with a bunch of ppl can be tough...I can use it as
an escape.

Get out, grab some fresh air (no pun intended) and a
cigarette. Calms me down and I go back in.

I've been thinking about quitting, not because I want to,
but because I should....my problem is, I enjoy it. A lot.

In my life I smoked 5 or 6 cigarettes. It was not unpleasant nor pleasant. It smelled good and I still like to smell fresh smoke (someone else smoking).

I thought about it and gave away the rest of the pack because I knew they are addictive and I value my health and well-being above something as mundane as cigarettes.

Then, in the area where I live, they are taxing tobacco at a "criminal" rate. They get $3 a pack in taxes or more, and there is talk of doubling that.

The cost and risks outweighed the small pleasure so I put it down before I was addicted.

No hard feelings towards peolpe who smoke; it's just not for me.

As a diesel mechanic I am exposed to enough smoke, solvents, and other nasty compounds to make up for it. Why add more toxins?

Respectfully,
David
