Call this a public service announcement...

There seems to be some belief that if a person talks about killing themself, they won't. That isn't true.

Yes, talking about suicide can be a cry for help. That doesn't mean
they're just looking for attention, aren't seriously considering it, or
won't do it. Sometimes it just means that they're trying one last time
to find someone who cares about them, and someone who will make life
worth living. When everyone passes it off as attention-mongering, that
can be enough to push them over the edge.

I don't want to talk about why this is so important, but I felt
compelled to make as many people aware of this as possible. Please
please PLEASE listen to someone when they say they're contemplating
suicide. You don't want to spend the rest of your life regretting not
    taking them seriously.

suicide is a bit of a touchy subject for me atm, so i wont say nemore.

Aerodynamically the bumblebee shouldn\'t be able to fly, but the bumblebee doesn\'t know that so it goes on flying anyway.

The fact is, even if a person is NOT seriously considering suicide, if they say they are, there is a REASON for it. Something is bothering them, and that is a way to ask for help. If ANYONE tells me they want to kill themselves, I don't take it lightly, because I have been there, I have said it myself, and even if I wasn't really thinking of taking my life, I was severely depressed and did need someone to care. It\'s all right to have butterflies in your stomach. Just get them to fly in formation.

I definitely agree. I don't know how many times people get told that, but still don't listen when someone cries out. I did a report on teen suicide in 2002... and I learned a whole lot. I definitely agree with you.

It's just like the story of "The Boy Who Cried Wolf", it's hard to tell fact from fictionwhen a lot of people use the suicide excuse to gain attention.

Pippi, I'm fine. At least, I'm not contemplating suicide or anything of the sort. I was thinking about a friend.

    I'm glad you are okay.
Suicide or any words of it should be taken seriously....but I think most of the time people are so into themselves, their lives, their own stresses....Thank you for sharing with all of us. Education. Reminder.

"Don't give up the fight to stay alive and even if you have to
find the reason of another's pain if they lose you
if not for your self then those around who care like I do
one day you'll see the clear blue..." - 311 'Beyond the Gray Sky'

that's the best message I can give to those contemplating suicide.

In general, just make sure friends know they are loved regardless if you can tell if theres something wrong or not.

We lost someone several years ago that we thought was just fine. No one
knew, he had too much pride to ask anyone for help. He was a great guy
and will be missed. If only all his many, MANY friends knew, Im sure
they would have helped. So just make sure people know how much they
mean to you. You could be saving a life.

    Thanks for making this post.
