    Default This site and Google

    Hi,

I have some friends that are concerned because this site comes up whenever they google their screen name. Any advice for them?

    Thanks,

    Mary

Hi Mary, I don't know really, but i suppose if their screen name is something which may identify them in "real life" because it's actually their real name or the same screen name they use on other sites they could re-register and choose something more anyonymous?

Thanks. That's not a bad idea. I think it was mostly their AIM screen name was showing up. I'll suggest that!

Use a different screen name on every site. Don't be harmonygirl72 or gumdropper or any other unusual name all over the internet. It makes it too easy for people to track you.

Yeah, I know that's true, but I am not always good about doing it.

Oooh, you are right. I just googled my handle here and it came up under a post that I made. Me thinks I need to change my photo or something...

Google is just getting TOO good, that's all!

I use the same one everywhere. No reason not to. I have nothing to be ashamed of here or elsewhere! Keeps me from losing ID's and such.

I use a different name here than anywhere else. I keep track of them all on a secure memo in my iPhone!

Yeah, my name here is nothing at all like my real name so nobody can find me unless they know what they're searching for... Names that I use for more 'public' things such as youtube, flickr, facebook etc have nooo relation to the names on sites like this.
& I post anything personal (facebook details, photos, etc) in the private section which doesn't show on google

Yeah, also, bit of advice I just figured. My name is here xxglitterxx (shocking I know since it's appearing on this post ) anyway, so I just googled it. Now it appears to be really common on loads of sites, so all I got was a load of bebo, dailymotion and blog accounts.

Couldn't find anything IES related to me at all. So if you use something a bit innocuous, a common word maybe with a number in it, that makes a good anonymous username

    Thanks for the advice!

I am using an anonymous username, although my name really is katherine.

I just don't want to be googled and have friends find out that I'm an emet. I don't trust all of them to respect me and my phobia...someone would come up with a mean April Fool joke!
