Does anyone know of any resources for those of us who simply can't afford to pay hundreds of dollars to see a therapist?

Like most college students, I make barely enough to pay my rent. I
don't have parents or any other family, and my job doesn't offer
insurance, so I'm stuck with no insurance. I'm also over 19 and not
pregnant, so the government doesn't provide insurance for me either. As
it stands, I haven't even had a regular check-up in six years >.<

Anyway, does anyone know of any organizations or anything who offer
mental health care either for free or on a sliding scale basis?
(Particularly in Southern California?)

Where do you live?? Most places do have sliding scale for people in your situation. Are you sure you can't get medicaid? Even if you prove your income and situation?

There are places like "Catholic Charities" (you don't have to be Catholic) who do services like that for free and are paid through donations. I would call your state office that providesgovernmentassistance, and I can guarantee that they will give you some way or other to get the help you need. One word for 'ya hon: Medi-Cal. Its for people in California who can't afford health insurance. There are exlusions on treatments and stuff like that, but you could find out! If Medi-Cal doesn't cover psychiatric treatment, it does cover normal MD treatment... and that is definitely a start. Good luck!!
