Default First session of hypnotherapy today!!

I have had hypno before but the lady was terrible. Started again today and she knows ALL about my emet and anxiety. She thinks if we work together, she can gradually introduce my fears under hypnosis and can get better!
    No negative posts please.

I dont feel much better because we only practised relaxtion today. But we did a tiny bit of work on anxiety. I do feel much calmer but its VERY early days...
    Anyone else had positive experiences?

She said that it will be slow but a gradual improvment will happen and it will be lovely for me to measure!

I had an amazing experience with my hypnotherapist. He took me from being scared to leaving to house to feeling confident enough to see it in movies and TV. I'm not longer fearful day to day, and I feel like I can probably handle it happening around me without a massive panic attack. I went through a SV a month or two after my therapy had ended and I was completely fine.

Keep your chin up! She sounds good!

I actually just started looking into hypnotherapy when a friend suggested it. Ive been going back and forth between "yeah, this sounds like a good step to try" to "but maybe it isn't, maybe I shouldn't risk it." (risk what, I don't know. Time?) If other people have used it and say it works, I'll give it a chance!

Hypnotherapy can be a good adjunct to other treatment therapies for emetophobia. I haven't heard of anyone saying that hypnotherapy "cured" them or completely did away with their anxiety. But maybe they wouldn't come here if that was the case. Anything that's not a scam is worth a try and hypnosis isn't a scam unless someone tells you they can cure you in one session or something like that.

Sage - I have a friend who is emetophobic. She was very ill last Christmas and went to see the same hypnotherapist i'm going to see. After she'd had a few hypno sessions she was LOADS better. She barely gets panic attacks anymore and says her anxiety is so low she barely notices it.

I know there is no quick fix but they hypnotherapist said she could definitley help me. She says it make take quite a few sessions but she will gradually expose me to my emetophobia and work on treating my anxiety. She is also a counseller and EMDR and CBT specialist. She thinks hypnotherapy could REALLY work for me.

So i do believe it can definitley help.
Everyone is different. I dont think having a CBT course would be any good for me at all..
I can watch people vomit and draw the word ect. Im not scared of VOMIT i'm scared of ME vomiting. So CBT wouldnt work for me because i know its irrational and i can watch hours and hours of videos of people vomiting and my anxiety wont be any worse.
I think hypnotherapy is a very good option for me.

    No negative replies please

You seem very positive about what will and won't work for you.

Verity I really don't know of anyone else on the forums who has tried and liked hypnotherapy. Most people don't give it a shot, and many who try it don't find it effective. The trick with Hypnotherapy is you have to be all about it, willing to do it, open and receptive, and believe it can help. Otherwise you shut it out and it's useless.

As in my post above, I loved my hypnotherapy, and it was really the best choice I ever made regarding my emet.

Sorry, I was saying that in a positive light, not a negative one I feel that it WILL work for you because you want it to.

vv, my first post was extremely positive...I don't see anything negative in it at all. You PM'd me after all, and asked me to comment. Then you wrote another post saying that CBT would not work for you, and gave your reasons. As my response said, you know yourself. You know what will work and what won't. Much like asianeko, I was trying to be positive. Believing you can get well is half the battle.

I hope this won't be misconstrued as negative, but I have to say something about your description of CBT. CBT is not just about watching people vomit to see if you can do it, and someone telling you there's nothing to be afraid of. It is a highly structured and very complex therapy method. It takes years of training and cannot be explained in a post on a discussion forum. You really don't know what will work for you until you try it with someone who you click with and who understands you and listens to you and who is very good at what they do. So if you don't want negative comments, I suggest you don't brush off a therapy method that has the only science behind it that works on phobias. The reason I say this is because other people - newbies and such - may read your post and think "oh ya - I can do all those things, and I think that too - there's no point in finding a CBT therapist."

And, as my comment said, you seem very positive yourself about what will work, and what won't work for you. Asianeko was also very honest, and very positive. If you don't want others to be negative then I also suggest you don't put negative things in your posts either (such as "CBT wouldn't work for me because....) Just sayin'. Using the word "not" even contracted, is negative!
