    Default Off Topic - Perimenopause

Are there any other women over 40 here, or am I the only old bag?

How are they symptoms of perimenopause affecting your emetophobia?

I will be fine and then I'll go a week nauseous 24/7 - it's like being pregnant all over again.

Yeah, the stuff they were gonna put me on for my endometriosis kind-of mimics the menopause and side-effects included symptoms like you're mentioning. I decided against it in the end (not because of the side-effects though). I feel for you though, morning sickness/pregnancy nausea is grim and I remember it well!

I didn't have any real problems with it, and I guess it's all over for me now. For about 3 years I had hot flashes, but never night sweats - luckily. But then I noticed that I was getting like these "nausea flashes" rather than hot flashes. I wasn't phobic any more so they didn't bother me. But they were just like a wave of *blek* and then they're over.

Yeah I don't have night sweats either and my hot flashes last less than a minute. Oh the joy of being a woman! It's always something with the hormones!

    you're still a baby......i'll be 59 next week...lol.

i've had a pretty easy menopause......have hot flashes occasionally but never night sweats. i do have periods of n....but no v. it used to send me into a panic......but once i figured out that was happening on sort of a montly basis i figured it was hormonal so it doesn't scare me too much.

my last period was 15 years ago.......so glad it's over. i've never had to take any hormone replacement therapy either.....so glad about that also.....

hopefully your tranisition will be uneventful also..... do be careful about pregnancy though.......it can happen really easily and because your period may be sporadic you won't even notice......i'm talking from experience and embarassment as becoming pregnant at the age of 43.....ughhhhhhhhh
    how i feel about emet

Why should you be embarrassed? Sex/pregnancy isn't just for the young... although I wouldn't want to get pregnant NOW. Oh my gosh, I couldn't imagine starting all over with diapers etc.

I can't wait for perimenopause to be over and to be IN menopause. I'm going to throw a party! I have had such a hard time every month with my periods.. the hormonal fluctuations would drive my anxiety through the roof. So good riddance to periods!

I know I sound stupid but what is perimenopause? I know what the menopause is but have never heard of this before!! Im 44 but my periods are still as regular as clockwork but I dont like the sound of these symptoms at all. I feel n* often enough now without any further causes.

Hi Claire, you don't sound stupid... perimenopause is the time (anywhere up to 10 years!!!) in between a regular menstural cycle and menopause, when you stop menstruating completely. It usually starts in a woman's 40s, but everyone's different. Some women don't even notice the peri part, they just stop menstruating one day. Others have years of all kinds of symptoms... hot flashes, nausea, skipped periods, irregular periods, my personal favourite "flooding" periods (yes it's exactly what it sounds like), headaches, mood swings..... etc etc.

I started noticing symptoms when I was 40... you're 44, you may not have even started yet. Who knows.
