    Thumbs up CBT Experiences?

Ok so i went to the doctors tonight, she was really helpful, and she referred me on to a specialist for Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. Do you think this will work? Has anyone had this therapy before and did it work for you ?

    Thanks

i unfortunately had a very very bad experience with my therapist. i was dragging myself to each session because i thought that it must just get worse before it got better. within 2 months of seeing her i was rock bottom. she didnt understand anything. in a few sessions she continually asked me the same question again and again "why do you do this" all i could ever say was because of the germs/contamination and that was never good enough for her. on our first session she handed me print offs from google one of which contained a picture of someone being s*. in another one she sat me down and told me everywhere and everything that had germs on and no matter what i did i would get ill one way or another. i was a mess. CBT wasnt for me, hypnotherapy was. i dont want to put you off because me and you are different. this may be the answer/help you have been waiting for. i wish you luck with it and i hope it goes well for you xx

My experience with CBT has been awesome so far. I've only had my second session, but I'm already seeing things differently. There are a few threads on here with people documenting their experiences with CBT. I have one called "Pet Therapy and CBT" :-) I was a little hesitant at first, but I figure it's definitely worth a try, and it's done wonders.

Just like with any other specialists, there are good docs and bad ones. There are docs who specialize in depressive disorders and it is my OPINION that these are not the type of doctors phobia suffers need. If you have depression because of your phobia, you still need a doc that specializes in anxiety disorders.

I saw a doc for about a year that specialized in depression, but also dealt with some anxiety disorders. She was very nice, listened well and had a few good tips, but really did nothing to attack my phobias and anxiety.

Also, my OPINION is that it depends on the type of person you are, too. Not that one way is better than the other, but I like to just get down to brass tacks. Give me a series of jobs or exersizes so I can feel like I am doing something. I don't want to sit and talk about it forever. I mean, it's all very interesting about how I got this way or how I feel about my mom and stuff but what about now?

Fact gathering only gets you... more informed. In my OPINON. CBT is great... for me.
