Something I have noticed while browsing this site is that a lot of members have stomach issues such as IBS, GERD, etc.

I find that very interesting since I was diagnosed with IBS,GERD,esophagitis, and gastritis last year. I think it is very traumatic for an emet to have these type of problems. I know I was constantly nauseated for about 8 months before I would agree to let my doctor refer me to a gastroenterologist. I was so terrified of having an EGD(where they insert a scope into your esophagus and stomach). I was so sick for a long time. I never *v* but was nauseated all of the time. My emet just got worse and I would hardly go anywhere for the fear of *v*. The EGD was one of the easiest procedures I have had done, of course I was under anesthesia. I was diagnosed and started on some meds and have been doing great since. I don't get as nauseated as I used to.

I was just wondering how many people here have had similar stomach issues and how did it affect your emet.

I think a lot of people on this board have stomach problems because of the stress from fear. Stress is a definite cause of IBS and other stomach problems. Worrying can do a huge number on your stomach. My stomach is messed up from my diet because when I get stressed or upset about something, I can't eat. Then, when I do, I feel sick to my stomach. My Mom went through the same exact thing. Stress can physically affect your body.

Yep, believe it or not...a few years back I became lactose intolerant because of stress. Well, because at first I didn't know what was wrong with me and was too scared to go to a doctor for years to find out, I also developed IBS. So...I am my own worst enemy. LOL Any other physical pain, I would have gone to the doctor right away. But anything to do with my stomach, I am too afraid to find out what it is.
It\'s all right to have butterflies in your stomach. Just get them to fly in formation.

i was diagnosed with ibs a few months ago which my doctor believes is anxiety induced. he has refered me to a gastroenterologist to be sure, i got a letter the other day saying my appointment will be within the next 17 weeks (nhs is slow!) and im scared of tests they might do.

This ibs has caused me more anxiety because im terrified to leave my house incase i have an attack. its a vicous cirlce. Im taking medication for it: colofac for the cramps and amytriptilene for the anxiety and to try and get the ibs under control. My ibs is also linked with migranes so i take migrane medication too.

my boyfreind wants to take me out for a meal tonight, im scared that i will have an attack whilst om out. He doesnt know about my ibs

I too suffer from extreme nausea it seems like it's every day almost...I don't know it's if just stress or something more serious...I have had IBS for over 20 yrs...I am 38 now...and I have had emet since 2nd grade...so all the stomach issues I have dealt with are so frustrating...and I am sooooooooooo scared to have the scope thing done and also they want to do a colonoscopy which I have cancelled twice so far...I have gone through the scope down the throat thing before back in 1991...I had 13 gall stones...so they had to knock them back into my gall bladder from my bile duct...then had the gall bladder removed...so when they tried to do scope...I completely freaked and they had to knock me out completely...anyway not a fun experience....and I really don't want to do it again....so what do you all take for nausea...I am xanax right now..just started for the anxiety....hope it might elp with the nausea.I think nausea is the worst feeling in the world and I will do anything to stop it....let me know if you have any suggestions...thanks...Kat

For me, IBS stemmed from my major anxiety and fear. It was wierd how I got IBS just when my anxiety started getting bad back in 1993. It is a vicious cycle for me...anxiety...IBS attack...more anxiety/fear...more intense IBS, and so on.

It is hard for the pattern to break, but eventually it does; atleast until the next round.

I am also another emet who fears getting a colonoscopy done...but according to 2 doctors that I have seen, they say I have IBS.

    Kat,

I take Prevacid and Zelnorm daily. The Zelnorm has made the biggest difference for me personally. I always have a supply of Phenergan on hand in case I get really nauseated. I used to take it frequently but now I rarely have to use it.

    Kat,

I started having stomach problems 2 years ago. I'm honestly not sure if it was anxiety related or not. It started one evening when we were eating out and I just immediately became nauseated after eating. This happened several other times and then the nausea became nearly constant with lots of indigestion. I went to my doctor and she put me on Aciphex to start with. It is a medication for acid reflux. It didn't do any good. She also give me Librax for cramps which didn't help at all. She then tried me on Nexium for acid reflux and that didn't help either. She finally suggested referring me to a specialist and I agreed to do so. I was losing weight and was starting to get very unhealthy. I am 5foot 6inches and I got down to 106lbs. I now weight about 110.

I had the EGD and was diagnosed with the problems I mentioned in my first post. The doctor gave me Prevacid twice daily which didn't help a whole lot at first. He then started me on the Zelnorm twice daily and it took about 6 weeks to kick in. Prevacid helps with the acid reflux type symptoms and Zelnorm aids in the digestive process and helps speed things up. It has helped me tremendously. I was able to eat this Christmas and I feel so much better. I can usually miss one dose but if I miss any more, then my stomach really starts bothering me and I begin to get nauseated. Zelnorm was made especially for people with IBS.

I am the opposite of that...I had the D really bad...so I don't know...that's interesting though...I appreciate your detailing it all for me...it's conforting to know that there are people that care...if that is for D then that might help me...who knows...something needs to give here...thanks though...Kat
