Default Whats scares you the most about "V"?

This might sound like a typical question but what is it really that makes you scared of "V" or someone emptying their stomach?

For me, it's the nausea. When I see someone looking pale and moaning that they are going to V, my heart rate starts to beat real fast. I can't think properly and I hate it. To me, its like somone waiting to push me of a aeroplane 1000ft in the sky. Just waiting for that crucial moment.

I also hate the noise, the "g" reflexes.

And then last of all its looking at the "V" itself.

im okay with seeing the v*..its the n* and NOISES..my therapists refers to this as the phobia of anticipation of v*....

I keep asking myself that question. What is the worst thing that could happen if I were to v*? N* creates the anticipatory anxiety and that makes the n* worse. But if I start v*ing, will I be able to stop? What will it look like? Do I really know how to v*? What if I get choked?

I have had fp several times, but didn't v*, but could have at least one of the times. I wasn't even n* the other times. Others that I had eaten out with were v*ing, but I just had d*. Then I got either the rotavirus or norovirus from my girlfriend and her family, but while they were all v*ing, I just had d* 43 times in 3 days and had to go to the ER for IV fluids. I was sitting on the toilet and drinking fluids at the same time! So if I have kept from v*ing for all of these years and just had d* (which doesn't scare me unless I am n*), then why can't I convince myself that v*ing is not likely going to happen if I get fp or a sv again? I am taking more risks of possible exposure to both, and tell myself I will deal with it if and when I do feel sick. I usually don't start taking ImodiumAD (here in the US) for d* until I have had a minimum of 5 episodes, because I want to get rid of all of it and not keep it inside me. I'm scared of feeling ill, I hate it, it's not pain, just some god awful feeling, I can't tolerate it, especially when it does become coupled with pain after a few illness episodes, if it was just pain followed by illness then I wouldn't have this phobia, also other people becoming ill frightens me because I see their illness as a risk to my own health.

For me, it's the nausea, and the vomit itself. Like the act of vomiting, I've learned to get over it, but it's having to face the vomit itself, and feeling awful because of it. That's what I've realized that I'm afraid of recently. If I could vomit up food itself, instead of it having to look so gnarly and gross, I'd honestly be okay. It's the substance itself, and the ill feeling that goes along with it; I think it's the anticipation, too. Everyone I've talked to has said that the buildup is WAY worse than the actual thing, and the only thing that's bad about the act of vomiting itself is that your throat burns.

I think that I am most worried about the substance its self. It will ruin and contaminate anything it touches. I had my favorite dress ruined this way when I was little. That is the ONLY time that I got sick that I do not remember every detail of. (That and one time when I was 2 years old.) I'm terrified that I will ruin something that I love, and I have a lot of unique things that are not replaceable. My hand made quilts, for example. Even if I could find the patterns, fabric, and other notions again, it could still never be the same quilt. If I feel sick, I want to be far away from anything and anyone that I care about.

The anticipation, feeling like I have no control. And the actual experience of v*

Mostly it's the not knowing if I'll have proper warning. I mean, obviously it's gross too, but the anxiety for me comes from the loss of control. I have...to put it lightly...severe control issues, ha. And so this is just one manifestation of a larger spectrum of obsessive compulsive personality behaviors. Actually, I'm glad that I have emetophobia because it kept me from being bulimic ! I mean, I still have a lot of restricting problems that I'm working on, but I could never follow through with purging because even though I'd be "making it happen" it's still a loss of control feeling. I mean, honestly, the times that I've been actually ill, very few I can count on one hand, I've definitely been aware that I was sick enough to...well, get actually sick...but I always feel like it'll happen in the night and I'll be woken up and I just hate that.

I think I could be assured that I'd only ever v* during the daylight hours, I'd have less anxiety. I mean, I'd still have it, but it would be a little more manageable !

I have done a poll question on this question. I think for most emets, it's that vomiting interferes with their enjoyment of their mouths. In the poll, I asked emets to imagine a hypothetical situation where, instead of the mouth, vomit comes out through a special opening, like in the chest. Most emets said they either would not fear vomiting at all or would fear it much less in those circumstances. A few said they would still fear it, but I think only one or two said they would fear it more.

So I think the answer lies in what vomit does to the mouth -- befoul it with an awful taste and disrupt our lives by sending something vile and unwanted into and through the mouth. Think about it -- does getting something unwanted in your eye bother you as much?

If humans had spouts like whales, we wouldn't have to fear vomiting.

Nausea and the burp-sound (if that makes any sense) regular cough sound is more ok.

Hate that I can`t decide when it`s going to stop. Hate feeling the fainty-stress-getting all pale in the face right before u v*.

oh AND THE TASTE! (sorry but that`s the worse. You just want`to rinse you mouth with and ocean of water so bad.

For me it's the anticipation. When and where am I going to throw up? If it wasn't so random and unexpected, I wouldn't be so frightened. The biggest fear for me is waking up in the middle of the night. I wouldn't mind nearly as much if it was during the day (so long as I wasn't in public).

The n* feeling beforehand. The anticipation and anxiety beforehand. Along with that I also have the fear of doing it in public. And since I haven't done it in so long, I'm afraid I won't remember what it feels like and won't make it to a toilet or trashcan or something.

The thing that scares me the most is doing it myself. The anticipation, the nausea, the retching (worst part), the taste, smell, and look. I'm scared of others doing it too, if it's contagious. But the worth part for me is the retching and the taste. Yuck!

I think it`s the loss of control that`s the scariest thing, then it`s what other people would thinkif they saw. Then there`s the gross out smell & taste,& then there`s the look of it. Just about everything about vting is freaky.

I dunno. If there was a special orifice for it I'd probably still hate it as much assuming that the nausea would still be there, the buildup, the involuntary nature of it, how awful it looks and any
embarrassment that may come of doing in public if you can't run to a bathroom in time. In that case it wouldn't matter where it's coming out of.

The worst part about V*ing? Everything, it seems. From the nausea leading up to it, to the sounds, sensations, grossness etc. Also the fact that you lose control of your body and the element of surprise behind it (the anticipation, as others would say). The last time i V*ed, i closed my eyes and refused to look at it, and attempted to position my tongue in a way where i wouldn't taste AS much of it. The act of V*ing feels violent, repulsive, and unpredictable (at times). It's a whirlwind of unpleasant feelings... the polar opposites of comfort and safety.

Im scared the vomit will go on for hours, i hate it that i can't breath, i absolutely can't stand the taste, smell, sound, and feeling, Also i feel like all the hype from N* just makes me scared rather then throw up itself. Maybe that's it... Idk, but it's a terrible thing to go through... I'm so scared of V*!!!
