    Default I'm making a change

    Hi Everyone!
It's been almost a month since I've been here; I feel so bad! To catch everyone up, I am booked solid with clients (all emets) 3 days/week and the other 4 days I'm doing 3 courses online in preparation for doctoral studies.
Sooooo......I decided that rather than randomly surf around here and try to read every single new post (impossible) I will just hang out here in the Treatments section. Meaning....this is the only section I'll check on a daily basis.
So if you have any questions or whatever feel free to post here. I also get emailed when I get a PM so anyone can PM me at any time. (If you want me to see a thread, please include a URL, however, so I don't have to go looking for it.)
Take care and begin your journey to healing!
    Love Sage

Check out my story on my website! (Link below, just above my picture!)
Short answer: 50 hours of CBT....and now I can offer the same treatment in about 20 or less.

Sage, does CBT work for everyone? I have my first session on 23rd May and am desperate to get better, my eldest son starts school full time in September and I really want to be better/cured by then so I don't have to worry about sending him to school and picking up bugs etc. At the moment he goes 4 mornings a week but it isn't compulsory and when someone there is sick I keep him off for 2 days afterwards just in case. I know I won't be able to do that in September as it will ruin his education and get me into trouble. My kids are my focus for making me better, I am determine to get rid of emetophobia, I've had it for 19 years now and I am 28, so had it pretty much my whole life!

Well, I sure couldn't say that it works for everyone because there are so many variables to consider: how severe the phobia is, how motivated the client is, the skill of the therapist, the tools/approach taken, etc. Having said that, CBT is the "tried and true" method for treating phobias and in fact all anxiety disorders. If you get a good therapist and you are willing to work hard then you should be able to become free of your anxiety. How long it takes depends on a number of factors. Some of my clients see me every week for a year or more and others are anxiety-free after 10 sessions.

My advice is not to give up. If your therapist's technique isn't working or you don't like your therapist then go get another one. If he or she hasn't heard of emetophobia then send them to my resource page on my website. It's just for other therapists!

    Good luck!

    Hi Sage,

Since you are only hanging out in this forum these days, I'm wondering if you could consider a suggestion I made for the forum. With all the adult-oriented threads and thought since you implemented a rule concerning minors with posting links to facebook/social media, it might be a good idea to have an "adults only" forum? For users that are 18+? There are numerous threads in the private forum about sex, periods, (1) pornography thread, stis/stds, and just general stuff that 13-14 year old kids should not be reading. Honestly, even though I do go to this forum for help sometimes regarding "adult" issues, I am uncomfortable with the thought of a 13 year old child readind a thread about my missed period, lol.

Here is a link to the thread in the suggestion forum surrounding an adults only forum: http://www.emetophobia.org/showthread.php?t=31651

Just a thought, I think the forum is great otherwise. Hope you're doing well and enjoying our lovely west coast weather.

    Liz

Hi Lizzo - I understand your issue with some of the forums, however enforcing an "18+" forum would be virtually impossible unless we asked people for a credit card number or something. It's really up to parents of 13-year-olds to put parental controls on their computers so they can't visit sites with certain words or themes. Apart from that, the sorry truth is that kids as young as 8 or 9 can read all kinds of stuff on the internet if they can get their hands on a computer without parental controls.
But I will pass the idea past Rich, who owns the site. Maybe he has some ideas. Thanks for caring!
