I have a dentist appointment in one hour and I am freaked out!!! Novicane makes me kind of quesy. I hate that feeling. I have to get a root canal, I am sure it will not be as bad as I am making it out to be, but still! At least I did talk my husband into bring me his mp3 player so I can listen to music insted of a drill.

I already feel a little better getting that out!

    Good luck to you.

I am worried about the dentist because of the pain and I have had them give me nitrous oxide (laughing gas) to relax. It helps but it isn't covered by my insurance.

Some dentist offices cater to nervous people. My husband has been seeing a dentist with televisions in the ceilings and head phones. You can even bring in your own DVD.

    Megan,

I had 2 root canals last year and was terrified with both of them. I don't like Novocaine either--it makes me feel weird. But, both procedures went very smooth and I had no pain during the procedure and only a little bit afterwards. My biggest fear with the dentist is gagging. I did gag when they did my x-rays after the root canal but that is because the tooth I had done was one of the very back ones.

You're already doing better than me--I made my husband go with me and sit there and watch while I was having it done! He felt pretty stupid, I think, but I didn't care. I needed some encouragement!

    Good Luck! You'll be fine!

I have had a lot of dental work done lately and I am not done! I was freaked out in the beginning, too, but I am getting better. I do make my best friend come with me (but he sits in the waiting room! ) and I also listen to headphones. That really helps. I had a wisdom tooth pulled, then a cleaning and a million x-rays, and then two fillings. I still need three more fillings and three more teeth pulled! Good luck and let us know how it went!

Hey good luck! I have had I want to say 4 root canals, one had to be redone and another is needing to be redone and the anxiety and what if's are the worse part. You will do fine especially if youhave a nice dentist. Just listent o the music and it will be over soon. Is he a regular dentist or a specialist? I've been done by both and the specialist is soooo much faster! Let usknow how it goes!

Oh my, Simplyme! I can't believe you have to have a root canal done over again. That scares me! I had both mine done by a specialist and you're right--they are great! He was so good. The first one was done in about an hour and then my second one (which was a bigger tooth with more roots)was done in 2 hours. I really hope I don't have to have anymore!

oh, i can totally relate. I put off going to the dentist for about 5 years-- big mistake! I had 6 teeth that need to be filled! I have had 3 done already, and each time I go it gets easier and easier. I'm not afraid of it anymore. the needle is the worst part and that isnt even bad anymore, they've come along ways in the past 5 years, the needles used to make me cry and now its no worse than plucking your eyebrow hair!

good luck, I have never had a root canal, but ive heard the only bad thing about that is keeping your mouth open that long, which isnt that scarey! you'll feel proud of yourelf when you get home! good luck!.. I've still got 3 more to get filled!

I think some people don't like the laughing gas because it makes you feel a little disoriented for about an hour afterwards. I actually liked it though because it relaxes me a little bit. I hope everything went alright for you though!!

Oh how I wish I was home when you posted!! You know what, I hated dentists. Bad experience with a dentist, the novicane made me feel sick. I am over my fear of dentists. Root canals are not that bad, I think its the sitting in the chair for an amount of time. When I went to a dentist, I had no choice I had to go. I faxed everything about me including severe panic attacks and this phobia, told him can't stand the smell of latex gloves thankfully he doesn't use that kind. This dentist was great. You can take something to settle yourself down. I hope everything went well.

Thanks again for the support guys! It was a piece of cake! The shot was the worst part and even that was not that bad. Next time it should be even easier!
