    Default dairy intolerance

does anyone else have an intolerence to dairy? I never used to but these days i do now. Im just wondering if its an intolerance or just IBS though. me and my friend stopped at maccas and had a sundae. not long after that the wind pain started and then a little while later i felt like i had to rush to the toilet. im surprised there wasnt much. but now its left me feeling very bluh and my tummy still feels unsettled. i only ate half of it. but im feeling kind of yuk now :/

This exact thing happened to me about 7 years ago. Drank milk everyday of my life and had no problems. One day started getting the same symptoms as you after only ice cream and milk. I too have ibs but it seems I formed some sort of intolerance, but they never actually diagnosed it after going to numerous specialists etc. Just had to cut those 2 out of my diet. I can drink A2 milk easy (tastes exactly the same as normal milk, yet I can have normal milk cooked in meals or stirred into mashed potato, that type thing for some reason), and have lactose free yoghurt (pretty sure I'm fine with yoghurt but I've been too scared for too long to try normal) and ice cream which too tastes exactly the same.

I can also drink yakult which I swear by every day for my ibs and gives me peace of mind after eating something bad - full of good bacteria which kills the bad stuff.

I'm lactose intolerant too! It's a pain in the bum sometimes, but if you're careful and determined you can live your life as normal. I only found out two years ago when I was 18, so I had had dairy all my life too.

Have you tried excluding it for a little while and then gradually introducing small things? Most people with an intolerance (not all may I add) can tolerant a certain level of dairy. Hard cheeses can be digested quite well for people with lactose intolerance so you could try by starting to bring in that.

It's always a good idea to visit your doctor too, as it's best someone knows what you're cutting out and any risks you might be taking. It's not always a great idea to go cold turkey as you could cut out some really good stuff. If you need any help with anything, just let me know.

im so glad im not the only one who formed this intolerance out of the blue! i used to be able to rink milk all the time. i cant even have a hot chocolate now im fine with yoghurt and cheese, but ice creams and milk dont go well with me anymore. i just hate the feeling it leaves behind when i have it. even after i go to the toilet i still feel off in the tummy.

It's great you can have yoghurts and cheese! I unfortunately can't manage them either -cheese in particular has put me in so much pain my other half didn't know whether to call an ambulance or not. I didn't know I was lactose intolerant at that point, lol!

Don't worry though - hot chocolates aren't out of the question. Use soya products if you like them (personally I find soya upsets me sometimes too) but there's always rice or oat milks available if not. Plus you can have dark chocolate or cocoa mixed with soya milk for a scrummy yummy hot chocolate. I have that often!

Depending on where you live you can also get LUSH dairy free ice cream. There's some stuff here in the UK which tastes so good I wouldn't know any different!

I would definetely try and exclusion diet before cutting it all out and keep a diary to keep track of what makes things worse.

i havnt tryed soy milk. I did have skim milk once. Is that the same? It still gave me those sharp annoying pains where it feels like you need to rush to the toilet. I even get those pains after i have a smoothy. Althoguh that probably has milk in it. Im jut gonna stick to my safe foods. Are you ok with chocolate or sorbet?

No skimmed milk unfortunately still has lactose in in as far as i'm aware. You might like soya milk, but even if you don't, like I saw there are other options. Also, if you really can't stick a dairy alternative you could even get special tablets, normally in health food stores, that help with digesting lactose. I've never tried them myself but they're worth a try I suppose!

Sorbet I'm fine with, like fruity ones. Chocolate unfortunately not. I can normally manage a couple from a tin of chocolates, like ones you get at Christmas and what not, but that's about it!

Enmalinda, I mentioned in my first post in here that I drink A2 milk, I'm from Australia too so you should definitely get that milk; it's from a different protein in the cow and is for lactose intolerance, I was heaps scared for ages to try it just cos I didn't want the tummy pains but it is by far the best thing I've done, have it every single day and it truly tastes the same as normal milk, not like soy where it tastes dramatically different. My mum found the Peters brand ice cream that is lactose free a few weeks ago too and that too tastes exactly the same, was so happy when she found that !

ALMOND MILK. It's a life saver, entirely dairy & lactose free, plus it is white, and tastes pretty much like regular milk. I don't like soy, rice, or any of that other milk-but almond milk is GREAT, i totally recommend it.

Also, I see a nutritionist, she says everyone's lactose intolerance is different. She said a lot of us can handle yogurt and hard cheese, but not soft cheeses, ice cream, straight milk, etc.

My own lactose intolerance developed within a week, it sucks, i miss ice cream ): If I get close to dairy I get all gassy then the d* comes ):

Yeah it's great, the kind I get only has 60 calories per cup, which is less than half of regular milk. Plus it has double the amount of calcium. It is truly amazing !

Here is a link of the kind I am currently drinking: http://www.google.com/imgres?um=1&hl...:429,r:23,s:14

I kind of had the same thing happen, i've never been a big fan of milk, but i loved ice cream and everything else dairy pretty much. I used to have dq blizzards pretty regularly and one day about 2-3 years ago it made me so sick to my tummy!! I just thought that it was a one -time thing, so i tried ice cream from home... same thing happened was in the bathroom for an hour. It was horrible!! Sometimes cheese will upset me, but lately lettuce has really been making my tummy sick. I do have ibs, so maybe it has formed some kind of intolerance. I dont know, but it makes me so sad, i loved ice cream. blah ill have to try some of the things you all have mentioned though!

Well im sure you will be able to find some kind, if not you can try rice or soy milk. I have been using these fake milks to make other things, like pancakes, cakes, and puddings which all require a lot of milk. It is a great substitute.

I'm lactose sensitive, but not intolerant. I was getting horrible symptoms so I cut lactose out completely from my diet. I slowly started reintroducing. I found that milk is my main problem, I can have it cooked into things (like mashed potatos) but not in coffee/tea. Ice cream and such is hard too. I can have cheese in moderation, and yogurt is totally fine. Maybe you should try experimenting with how much/what your stomach will tolerate?
PM me for contact info such as skype, email, or facebook. Thanks!

I'm not completely sure if I'm lactose intolerant but fresh milk (like from the jug) gives me gas and usually works like a laxative, bleh lol. But I can eat things made with milk and even cheese (like Parmesan or American) but yogurt, ice cream and milk seem to upset my stomach. Like the other day I was making instant oatmeal and licked the spoon I used to stir (that had milk on it) and like 2 mins later my stomach started cramping and getting gasy >____<

I'm very lactose intolerant with straight up milk, ice cream, yogurt, cheese, basically anything with milk as the main ingredient. I can have chocolate though. The thing is, people are always asking me why I won't just have a little bit, because they don't understand emetophobia and how scared I am. So I just stay away from dairy.

Dairy intolerance can make you feel like crap. Basically, some people with dairy intolerance have diarrhea. On the worse side, some people vomit. There are some medications you can take before eating dairy produces. Dairy intolerance happens because the stomach is not able to digest the lactose in the dairy products. Lactose (suger in milk)
