    Default OT: Mouth ulcers/oral thrush

I get mouth ulcers on the sides and tip of my tongue all the time. Sometimes they are only a little bothersome, but other times they are extremely painful, preventing me from talking, eating, drinking, etc. I am wondering if anyone else frequently deals with mouth ulcers, commonly referred to as canker sores. Is there anything that helps clear them up? What do you suppose the cause is? I have read that people with compromised immune systems often get them and I have been ill quite a bit this past year, but I'm not sure. I'm actually sick right now with a bit of a sore throat and very clogged sinuses. Blah would really love summer now!!

I used to get canker sores ALL THE TIME. I'd usually get a couple a month, and I was miserable. Then, I read online that it might actually be one of the inactive ingredients in my toothpaste causing it. I since switched toothpastes and I've had maybe 2 or 3 cankers in the past 2 years!

The ingredient that causes the sores is called "sodium lauryl sulfate", and is usually listed under "inactive ingredients" on the back of your toothpaste. I switched over to using Sensodyne (many of Sensodyne's products don't contain SLS). I'd try using that instead of whatever you use now. Just make sure to double check the back of the box before you buy it to assure that there isn't any SLS.

    Good luck!

Hmm that sounds like a definite possibility!! My boyfriend's dad is a dentist and he said it could be the toothpaste as well so perhaps I should see what the ingredients are. The paste itself is very harsh on my mouth lol I stand there panting for like ten minutes after I brush my teeth cause it's SO strong lol...thanks for the response much appreciated!

switch to trader joe's toothpaste. it doesn't have that ingredient. and take a multivitamin. its a combo of harsh chemicals in toothpaste, stress and immune system. ive always had them but much much less with the new toothpaste.

Ok, thanks. There's a Trader Joe's right by my boyfriend's house so I will definitely go there.
