Default OT-new movie 'Sinister'-has anyone seen it yet?

Ok- I rarely go out to the movies cause theres usually not much that really interests me. We usually just wait for the DVD or blu-ray. In fact I think the last movie I saw in a theater was Dispicable Me . Once in a while something comes out that looks pretty cool and I make an effort to see it ASAP and this new movie Sinister looks like it could be pretty good.
Has anyone here seen it yet? If so, is it actually scary-scary? I love a good scary movie but most of them are more gory than scary (does that make sense?) so I end up kind of disappointed.
If you've seen it, let me know your thoughts

I couldn't agree more! Gory does not make scary! I remember when everyone was going on and on about how scary Hostel was. All it was was gore, and I thought the movie sucked!

I really want to see this too but was so disappointed with Insidious which was the last movie everyone was raving about. I had myself all psyched up to watch it as loads of people were saying they were sleeping with the light on and totally freaked out by it. I honestly didn't see what the fuss was about! The last horror I saw that really got to me was Orphan!

Trust me guys when I say that this film is very disturbing. Let me reiterate how you should all. Go. See. It.

Well, we went to see Sinister the other day and it freaked the hell out of me-YAY!!!!! I jumped/screamed a couple of times and watched thru my fingers on more than one occasion. It was seriously creepy-a bit of a stretch as far as 'could this happen in real life' but who cares?? I will probably end up buying it on DVD when it comes out cause there were a one or two things I was confused about and it was good enough that I wouldn't mind seeing it again. Even my husband thought it was scary.
When I went to bed that same night, I had the TV turned to one of the cable channels and when I woke up a couple hours later, there was a show on about cursed/possessed doll. Between waking up to that and still jittery from the movie, I was scared shitless and almost had to wake my husband up
Now call me crazy, but that's a fun way to be scared!

I actually really enjoyed it! On the plus side, it has no v* scenes in, unlike many films of the same genre!

I won't watch the exorcist cause I'm just too chicken shit. Love poltergeist, but for me it doesn't get any scarier than The Shining. Seriously, I'm 41 flipping years old and still won't watch that stupid movie by myself. The original Omen and Halloween are also pretty scary to me.
And Lucy is right-Sinister is a good, scary movie with zero v. Win/win!

I told you guys you'd love it! It was sinister I am a horror movie buff and was so pleased it genuinely scared me lmao. I made my friend escort me to my door. No way in hell was I walking all the way up my dark ass driveway with the image of axe wielding children in my head! I concur--want the DVD! My boyfriend found it scary too AND my friend which was awesome because we all usually tend to mock and find supposed horror movies comical.

I hear ya there. I'm from the 80s when slasher/dead teenager movies were all the rage. Think Friday the 13th, Prom Night, Nightmare on Elm Street and all those. I used to LOVE LOVE LOVE scary movies-most of em now just suck. I saw the move Strangers a few years back-that one was pretty creepy too, IMO but it didn't disturb me anywhere near the way Sinister did!

Oooo The Strangers creeped me out too! I forgot about that one. Poltergeist never really creeped me out but it's still a classic and I love it . Halloween creeps me out when he's standing at the foot of the chick's bed wearing a sheet and she thinks it's her boyfriend lol . However, I must clarify I hate the remake by Rob Zombie...that was just messed up in the worst kind of way. I hope Paranormal Activity 4 doesn't disappoint! Ukers reported it to be scary as hell lol fingers crossed! However, the trailer for PA4 looks horrendous!

Poltergeist isn't freak your shit out type of scary, but yeah, still good stuff.
Funny you mention that scene from the original Halloween-that's that same part that always scared the hell out of me, too! Haven't seen the Zombie remake. I'm a huge fan of his music, but I started watching one of his movies (can't remember the name) but it was so graphic and violent I turned it off.
I only saw the first Paranormal and did enjoy that one. The trailers for '4' look good-are parts 2 & 3 worthwhile?

Was it House On Haunted Hill? Yeah....violent and graphic is pretty much the name of his game I'm afraid haha. I do love his music. I saw him live in May with Marilyn Manson! Talk about awesome

STFU!! I just saw the same show a few weeks ago here in Az. Buck Cherry was there too and I have a weird thing for the lead singer Josh Todd Amazing concert, though! Zombie's stage show was phenomenal-one of the best I've seen. I do have to admit, I had a tiny paranoia at the back of my head that either him or Manson would incorporate v* into the show. Luckily that didn't happen!
The movie I started to watch was The Devils Rejects (google is my friend!) I dunno.....it was too raw and graphic for me

HAHA yeah I was kind of wary of the same thing happening...lol

The Shining comes on in 10 minutes but there is no way in hell I'm watching it in my creepy, cold, dark ass basement alone! lol

I have to diagree with Paranormal Activity. Every time another one comes out they claim how is it "so scary" None of them scared me, so Im sure 4 will be the same.

The Shining is a good movie, but like most Steven King novels takes WAY to long to get to the good stuff....

I disagree! I think in The Shining anyway, the creep factor (as I call it) sets in pretty quick. I also think most of the information is pretty vital in regards to understanding the film. I had to watch it several times before I fully understood it. I still have my questions though lol. My friend took her bf to see PA4 and they said it was alright. Nothing special. Figures lol

About the clown scene...nope lol I still hate clowns!! When I was a kid, I watched IT....terrifying experience for a ten year old lol

I've seen bits and pieces of Pet Sematary but I really would like to watch the whole thing. Is it that good? The Ring scared the ever living shit out of me for the longest time. To this day, I still cannot stand any static on my television at all lol. Have not seen Cujo, The Thing, or The Exorcist to be honest. I saw The Exorcism of Emily Rose which is a pretty creepy movie. I LOVE 28 Days and 28 Weeks but it was more gory than anything else..still good though!

I'm definitely going to use suggestions here and do a whole "scary movie" night.
Here's a few of my favorites
    1-the Shining
2-the Omen (the original one-that was one creepy little kid)
3-Halloween (the first one by John Carpenter-even the music scares me)
    4-the Strangers
    5-Poltergeist (freaking clowns!)
    6-Amittyville Horror (the first one)
    7-Sinister
    8-Paranormal Activity part 1
    9-Event Horizon
10-Friday The 13 1&2 (after the first 2, they started getting stupid)
If there's any other suggestions out there, I would love to hear them
