rectal examination

For quite a few years now Iv`e had an embarrassing problem that sometimes when I open my bowels, some gets left behind & leaks out afterward & I have to wear tissue paper when I go out because I`m so scared that I`ll mess up my underwear. I put up with it for so long because I was too embarased to tell my doctor about it. I checked it out on other medical websites, & apparantly quite a lot of people have this problem. I was advised to pluck up the courage to see my gp, & she did a quick exam, said that everything felt normal, but that she would have to refer me to a colorectal specialist for a more detailed examination. I`m glad that I`m finally getting something done, but I hate being poked & prodded down there, I`m wondering if any other members have been through this kind of thing, & how did they cope with it?

I don't know about other's, but when I visit my OB/GYN, he puts a finger in "both holes" to check for things... Its not fun, but it is only for like 20 seconds. As for using tissue paper, maybe you should try panty liners, they may be more comfortable.

Literally i just had to go through this yesterday. Its embarrassing but the doctor does it everyday, so its not embarrassing for them. Try not to worry, its good that you are putting your health first.

Whatever the colorectal specialist does to me can`t be any worse than when I had to have a barium enema 10 years ago because of IBS, to rule out anything serious, because I had to take a super strong laxative the day before which gave me the worst diahrea that Iv`e ever had. I`d take a hell of a lot of persuading before I`d go through that again!
