Hi there!

Out of sheer curiosity, despite Emetophobia does anyone else suffer with other fear's, ormainly vomit? I was pondering this for a while, gathering everything else that makes me cringe and shiver. Doing a bit of research I was surprised at how many phobia's and possibilities there could be, irrational or not. Here's my list:

* Emetophobia
1. Isolophobia - afraid of being alone.
2. Atmosophobia - bombs.
3. Bacteriophobia - bacteria.
4. Taphephobia - buried alive.
5. Claustrophobia - enclosed, tight spaces.
6. Necrophobia - corpses.
7. Agrophobia -crowds.
8. Teratophobia/Dysmorphophobia - deformity.
9. Germanphobia - germs.
10. Lilapsophobia - hurricanes and tornado's.
11. Nuclemituphobia - nuclear weaponry.
12. Nosocomephobia - hospitals.
13. Taeniophobia - tapeworms. (2nd biggest fear!)

Please reply and tell me your other phobia's. If you don't know the name for a certain fear, here's a handy site that lists the most common ones in alphabetical order: http://www.phobics-awareness.org/phobialist.htm

Or make it easy on yourself and just type thephobia itself instead of the medicalterminology. XD

I have definite germophobia, and I also have a fear of buses. I think that's my lot though.

agoraphobia, germphobia, hospital,Dr.offices and dentists-but goes back to the germ thing, Planes-but that's because I get motion sickness and it goes back to the emet., bugs)stinging ones like bees,hornnets)-but that might be just a fear and not a phobia. I have LOTS of fears.

The only other phobia I have is arachnophobia and I also have mild hypochondria that's independent of the emet.

That isn't to say that vomiting, spiders, and illness are the only
things I fear, they're just the only ones I'd say are phobias.

The thing about emetophobia is that it can cause other phobias. The way
I differentiate those is I ask myself if I fear the thing in question
for a reason other than that it might cause me to vomit/see someone
vomiting. If the answer is no then I just class that as only emet.

I have mild arachnophobia and claustrophobia, and I have a fear of moths (millers), but I don't know if it qualifies as mottephobia. Edited by: zebra

lol- i don't know about anyone else, but i think that EVERYONE should have nuclemituphobia. i guess other than emet, my biggest fear is of bats and snakes and i find myself socially phobic at times of the year, but i think that's emet-related. please post if you are NOT afraid of nuclear weapons, please. lol

steph77:</span> You're right there are
several other phobias listed on that site that most people who are
normal are afraid of such as being burried alive, or rape, or nuclear
weaponry.

However, you can also apply that same logic to emetophobia. Most normal
people don't like v*ing. What's the difference between someone who just
naturally doesn't like it and an emet? Well if you're an emet you
definetly know the difference, but someone who isn't an emet might
see the definition of emetophobia on that site and think to themselves
"who wouldn't be afraid of that?"

I think the difference between something that's just naturally scary
like nuclear weaponry, etc. and a phobia is the compulsive fear. So,
yes you find the thought of nuclear weaponry scary, but is it something
that causes you to lose sleep? Does thinking about nuclear weaponry
give you a panic attack? Do you have fearful thoughts about it at
random times in the day when there's no reason to think a nuclear
weapon would be around? Do you fear nuclear weaponry enough that you'd
like to move out to the middle of the desert or an arctic region
because there's nothing around there that anyone would want to target
for a nuclear attack? If not then I'd say you don't have
nuclemituphobia, just a normal logical fear.

Chicajojobe, excellent hypothesis. However, to answer your question as being the first: Yes, I do have nuclemituphobia. I have nightmare's almost every night and each is concerning a nuclear attack and I'm always fleeing from the clutches of some catastrophic disaster. I have panic attacks about it, and when I hear odd, loud noises I start hyperventilating thinking it's an attack or bombing. I think about it all the time considering those dreams linger long after I'm awake. Logical? Perhaps. I'm not sure how this transpired, and what those dreams mean exactly. I've been to therapy and we're still trying to decipher it.

In general of literally a nuclear weapon itself? Not exactly, but in consideration to the damage one could cause when detonated does bring a shiver up my spine.

Oh believe you, peachfeet</span>. I
never said I thought you didn't. I'm sure you know yourself and if you
say you have it then you do. I was really just addressing steph</span> when I said "you" because she mentioned that she figured everyone should have that phobia.

I have a phobia of bees/wasps/hornets... basically getting stung. It has gotten better some as I've gotten older, but it's still bad.I swear I have super-sonic hearing and can hear a bee a long ways away. I used to never ride in a car with the windows down, in fear of bees coming in. I can do that now. I even had a car in high school that didn't have air conditioning and I would rather melt in the heat than open the windows and risk a bee coming in. I wouldn't go near flowers, wouldn't drink a can of pop outside for fear that the bee would go in the can.... and the insane part?? I've never been stung!!!! So I see a trend here - haven't been sick for ages andnever been stung, but deathly afraid of both.... fear of the unknown?
