You probably get posts like this all the time.

I've always had an extreme fear of throwing up. I would become hysterical whenever I threw up, and I take extreme procautions to keep myself from throwing up when I feel sick, like not eating so that I won't throw up as much.

Sometimes at night I'll start thinking about throwing up. I'll have told myself it isn't that bad, but then once I think about it I'll start remember that awful sensation and I'll practically cry just thinking about it. Even though I haven't thrown up in years, I am so scared of it.

I remember being in the car and my brother was throwing up. I was clawing at the windows, I wanted out so bad. I would have jumped out of the moving vehicle. I just wanted out. Looking back, this was totally weird. I have never seen anybody act like this before.

My brother throws up all the time, and whenever he does, I have to go upstairs or downstairs depending on where he is, or if I'm in bed I'll cover my ears and even after he is done I'll cover my ears so that I don't hear him throwing up. When anybody in my family is sick and feels nauseous, I obsess about it and wash my hands constantly and I stay away from that family member because I am so scared of getting sick and throwing up.

I just found out about emetophobia today, and I'm wondering if I suffer from it.

heya, you're right we do get a lot of posts like this... especially saying something like "I can't believe there are so many of you" or "I didn't know this was an actual recognised illness"...

you share a lot of the characteristics of us emetophobes here. But the label isn't that important. If you feel it interferes with your life, then i'd advise u to get help for it as soon as possible.

If yuo're a bit frightened of going to the Doctor and being shooed away or something take along the document written by Sage which can be found in the treatment thread. It will be useful for you and the doctor.

welcome to IES, i hope u get some support from us here.

Hello, Sammy, I hope IES helps you out. I just joined about three weeks ago and have found it very helpful. There are odd behaviors of emetophobes listed on here that I do, that I never saw anywhere else before. Do you ever fear nausea? Sometimes I think I fear the feelings linked to v*ing more than the actual act of v*ing..if I were to v* with no sensations, I probably wouldn't be half as scared.

Anyway, it does sound like you have emet..I do the same things..I close my eyes and cover my ears, and stay as far away as possible from whoever it was that got sick. I also try not to smell it, because that freaks me out, too. My emet usually isn't even in my way unless it is actually happening to me or someone around me..and I'm only moderately affected by movies, because I've been through some exposure therapy. Have you been to/do you go toa therapist? If you don't have a therapist, I think it would be best for you to find one...someone who is understanding and knows what they are doing and doesn't take it as some minor issue.

Im afraid to say these are the first tell tale signs of emet BUT dont despare as you have come to the right place! because every one here has exactly the same as you me the people whove replied to you etc.. When ever people in my house hold get sick i literally pack my bags and stay else where till its all gone no one else has a bug and i disinfect everywhere but hey if it makes u feel better do it! ur NOT A FREAK this is aparently the 2nd or 3rd most common phobia in the world and docs here of it probably every week!

I suggest telling your doc gets some help not like full on help but maybe advice to help take away the fears edge of emet. Its helped me. I would also like to congrat you for staying in the car with your bro i would have been out the window before you can say the words "pass me the sick bag"!!!

It sounds like you do suffer from it.... why does your brother throw up so much? But I do the same thing too. One time my sister was sick and she threw up and I wouldn't let her in our room (even though she sleeps there!) she had to sleep on the couch!!!! Now that I think back I can't believe my parents actually let me keep her out. I guess I was going hsyterical.

    Well, welcome to the emet-club!

I don't know why my bro throws up so much, I guess he has a very weak stomach.

Thank you for your support everybody. It's nice to know that I'm not the only one who fears this.
