I've just bought (and eaten) a scotch egg from the supermarket
to have with my lunch. It was all packaged nicely, its use-by is the
9th November, and it tasted fine. However, I noticed when I'd
eaten half of it, that the meat didn't look cooked. It's a type
of sausage meat, and it had this pink tinge all over it. I think
I'm just being paranoid, as I know sausage meat can be pink, but it
usually looks more grey, I guess.

I'm starting to feel n* but I think it's just anxiety. Am I being silly? Do you guys think I'll be ill from it?

What is a scotch egg? Is it just like sausage, or a sausage and something else? I dunno. I know that here in the US, most of our sausages are precooked before we buy them. So if the type that you got was precooked, then I don't think I'd worry too much. Take some rolaids or something, and relax, and see how you feel.

It's a cold boiled egg, surrounded by sausage meat and then has
breadcrumbs all over it. Sounds a bit gross, but very
    yummy! Yes, it's a pre-cooked snack.

I'm feeling a bit better now. Thank you. Hoping it stays that way...

I'm sure you'll be just fine, raindrop! Sounds like a classic dose of anxiety to me...especially if you only started feeling a bit n* after you noticed the meat. Sausage meat often has a pinkish tinge...depending on what kind of sausage it is. I'm exactly the same, though, I panic nonstop if I realise the meat I'm eating looks undercooked.

If it tasted fine, and the usebye date was still way off, then I think you are most definitely safe ^_^ So don't worry!Edited by: angel13

SOunds like my world. I freaked out the other day because I ate half a crab cake and it didn't taste right, then two weeks ago I drank some yucky orange juice and made my husband drink a glass just so I would know that I wasn't going to be sick.

I used to stop eating for days, now I still eat, so I guess it is all getting better.

I totally do that! I get my partner to take a bite out of whatever I'm
eating, and it reassures me. It's so nice of her, especially as
she'll eat stuff she doesn't like, just to prove to me there's nothing
    wrong.

I was fine - the scotch egg was fine! There's always something
though. Last year I lost a lot of weight because I stopped
eating. This winter, I've promised myself that I'm going to try
harder at eating regularly, even when I'm worried about catching
something. I got told you can still v* if you haven't eaten, and
it's more painful if you don't have food in your stomach.
