hi all, im off to lombok (little island in indonesia) on sunday for a
christmas holiday, it was meant to be a suprise present for my
daughter and boyfriend.. the boyfriend left me but thats another
story, so its just me and my 10 yr old daughter going now, and im
sure we're gonna have a great time.. but im just starting to get a
little anxious bout the long flight (hate being stuck in a plane with air
s**k people) and the possibility of getting some terrible travel
stomach ilness when we're there! has anyone ever been there?? any
general travel advice? of course ive got the most stocked medi kit,
creams pills the lot, but im so worried about being stuck in some
strange place with my daughter or me being ill..

Have never been there, buy my husband has to go to Jakarta on
business sometimes, which if my geography is any good is, I believe,
in Indonesia and had to have loads of injections before he went like
yellow fever etc. Make sure you take malaria tablets because i
believe there are alot of mosquitoes over there. Other than that,
don't drink the water, stay away from birds and stick to safe foods -
and I'm sure you'll have a great time!!!
Well done for doing something so brave!!! Don't let emet ruin your
    time!!

    Hey oilbird!

I'm with Polly- I would just consult with your doctor to see if he recommend that you get any shots before you go- and make sure you drink only bottled drinks!

I have family that had travelled extensively around that area, and a friend that worked in East Timor-they never got sick. It sounds cliche- but wash your hands, don't buy food from dodgy street vendors, and bottled water is man's best friend. Also, make a plan in case one of you do get sick- bring kid and adult medicine (tylenol, pepto, etc), some crackers, gum, etc- stuff that you know you would need/use. That way, at least you would know that you are prepared!

Wow...I'm so jealous! I hope you and your daughter have an amazing time!

Have a great time and If you're nervous about the flight, get your doc to give you some xanax. I took some for the first time today and LOVED how I felt! I wanted someone to get sick in front of me just so I could see that the stuff worked great! I only have 25mg... The stuff ROCKS! just be careful not to drink with it and also it's really addictive! Have an awesome time! that sounds like the trip of a lifetime!
