Thought I'd post something here cos I'm more than slightly panicked and freaking out.
I
got home from my friends last night (feeling proud cos I'd stayed over
the night before) and my mum spent all night in the bacthroom with a
stomach bug.

She's warned me to keep m door shut as I went to bed cos she knew and luckily I didnt wake up at all. bonus.

But
I'm now sitting. feeling ill. convinced I've caught it off her. I
really don't know what to do. I havent been this worried for ages. I
locked myself in my room under my covers all this morning crying *poor
me hehe bring out the violins* but at the time I was just think, if
this is whats going to happen to me all through my life whats the point?

Im
really panicked...and I don't want to be ill...and I'm sorry for
posting such a random rambling message I just...need a distraction and
advice. And to somehow be told it's all a mistake and what my mum
hadn't isnt contagios.

The more I sit here thinking about it the more I'm sure I feel ill. I just have no idea how to differentiate ill and worry. Someone said it gets worse over time if its really the bug...well knowing that its got worse.

*dont know what to do...anyone know?*

Aww, I'm sorry. Don't use the same bathroom as her, keep your hand clean especially when making/eating food or touching your face. You should be fine. I am on MSN messanger ifyou want to talk. My s/n is: [email protected]

ham_crisp,

First off, I know that you feel you are in a desparate state at the
moment and are having a panic attack. Let me say that you have
already made a good step in coming out the other side of it by logging
on to here and seeking out advice from others who have exactly the same
panic attacks as you.

If your mum has a very contagious stomach bug there are only a few ways
in which you can contract it. You can touch an infected surface
and then touch your mouth or your eyes or your nose. Or you can
be very near here when she is actually being sick and be exposed to the
very fine aerosol mist. It sounds like you have definately not
been exposed by aerosols because your mom gave you good advice and you
took it and did the sensible thing and went to your own room, so you
have almost certainly avoided the second route of exposure. Your
mum would have cleaned up after herself and if she is a great mum,
which she sounds like she is, she would have bleached all the surfaces
which she could have contaminated. Now again you can avoid the
bathroom she was using, but if not there is still no need to panic
becuase the simplest thing you can do to avoid exposure is exactly that
a very very simple thing. Wash your hands with hot soapy water,
not just a quick rinse under the tap, but really lather them up, keep
rubbing them gently with the foam from the soap for as long as it takes
you to sing happy birthday twice to your self. then wash the soap
off really well and dry your hands with a clean towel. repeat
this everytime after you have to use the bathroom your mum used and
most importantly before you eat anything, and I mean anything, a
chocloate bar, a packet of crisps, anything where there is achance you
could have to touch anything that goes into your mouth. By
following these guidelines you will seriously limit the chances of you
catching anything.

Also the thing to remember is that your mum may not have had a bad bug,
she may have eaten something which disagreed with her, or any number of
things that could of upset her stomach.

Keep us posted of how you are and how you feel, there is usually
someone on these boards day and night around the world. We will
NEVER say you are being silly, we will ALWAYS be supportive of your
panic attacks and try all that we can to see you through them.

TOGETHER WE WILL GET THROUGH THIS.

OK ?

thank you so much.

the 2 of you. I've not been near my mum really. She came in my room a few times...but apart from that nothing.

My only worry (well I have many) *rephrases* my biggest worry is that I used the phone right after her. And was in the car...a confined space with her last night.

she definitely has a bug, cos she's a nurse and she caught it off a patient. A patient who she had to go in a room with and look after at least 10 times.

I'm now cooking some tea....figured I need to eat. And I washed my hands...even if it was frozen and about to be cooked. hehe.

And Im just keeping busy as much as I can. How likely dooo you know would it be to catch a bug from someone...in the same house...and only ever in the same room at the same time for a minute?

I used to work in a nursing home for 8 years, and with all the SV* that used to fly around there, I only caught it once. So, I'd say it's pretty unlikely you caught it.

I'm sorry you are feeling bad at the moment. When I was younger, my brother used to get it all of the time, and I never caught it from him. Either did my parents, which is weird, but they were probably immune to it by then. I always stayed in my room, if I had to go in the kitchen, I would wash my hands afterwards, and I would use my parents' bathroom while he was sick. We all go through this at some point. Hope u feel better soon.

I can't fault what anyone has said above, wash hands, avoid contact and keep everything clean. I don't think you pose a risk of getting infected so I'm *POSITIVE* you'll be okay! Come to this forum in times of need it'll really help you out, I think we can all bow down to that!

If your panicing I find trying to do one of the text games in the forum helps keep your mind off it, or an online game website..

Take care!!

thegooddr has it all about summed up! that's the most perfect
advice and consolation any of us could have come up with i think. wow,
that was great. i'm going to have to remember this post and come
back to it when i get panicky. i agree that if you follow all the "rules" you should not get sick.

hope you're feeling better now, and your mum, too. thinking of you and sending calm thoughts your way.
