    My father had severe post traumatic stress disorder after being in Vietnam. He did get help with it (before I was even born) and is alot betternow a days but you still have to be careful. I could say I have a mild form but its definatly no name but I do get recuring images of the times of seen people vomit especially when Im nervous.

    I have had it in the past. It hasn't flared up for a while... gratefully... the flashbacks were a nightmare for me and everyone else around me.

    Hey grengsb;

    I had PTSD. My emetophobia was finally diagnosed as that, actually, and that's when I was able to begin to heal. It's like someone finally took it seriously - rather than thinking of it as a "simple phobia" that could be fixed in 6-10 sessions. PTSD takes years. I took the years. Now I'm completely flashback-free, and anxiety-free, and plan to stay that way.

    My story is under the Experiences thread "Cured of Emetophobia"

    I have PTSD as I have diagnosed myself because I know myself better than any doctor. I have flashbacks to my own traumatic experience w/ choking on Tylenol capsules as a child. I have flashbacks all the time. I don't invite them. At times they are provoked by some immediate circumstance. See as a teacher you sometimes know of your students being sick. Right now, I'm anxious because I've had this kid sick for about three days now and left this morning due to v*. I came to open my door and there it was on the cement ground next to my door some v*. Thank God it was like a whole puddle. Mostly saliva but some food particles. I didn't panic. I haven't panic and don't plan to but I have had flashbacks of what I saw all morning. This is the way I am w/ these situations until I naturally forget about the experience. I was almost convinced that I would get sick a while ago cuz of what I saw and he was in class yesterday. I wondered if he had some sv but I remembered that after I questioned him about why he suddenly felt that way, it might have been food poisoning since he had taken a trip to Mexico and ate some meattacos off the street vendors. Still, I'm afraid he ingested some SV or Ecoli or bad bacteria from the bad meat and might exhale it here etc. So knowing he's been sick all week, makes me anxious. I finally gave up fighting the obsessive thoughts and took some medicine. I still have flashbacks and go through the "what if" it happens tome next? Oh well, I'll survive. I have for more than 30 years. Why not another 30? What do you think? Do I qualify?
