i woke up this morning to hear my mother telling my sister that my dad is sick. he says his stomach is really crampy, he has no appetite, he has a fever of over 101.0 and he feels weak. no v* yet, but i'm still freaking out. this sounds like a sv*, right? or could it be the flu?i've been disinfecting things all day long but i just remembered that i was cold last night so i put on his sweatshirt that just happened to be in the living room. we haven't had any direct contact that i can remember because he was out playing cards with his friends last night. him and my mom both just had a terrible sv* about a month ago. ugh, i can't get a break. just need some reassuring words

blondie,

I am not going to lie to you, yes it could be a sv, but it could also
be a hundred other things. Norovirus, the main cuplrit in the sv
world usually brings on d* and/or v* as the first symptoms, and people
go from feeling fine to being very ill very very quickly. If your
dad has those signs for some times then there is a chance it is not
norovirus, although different people display different symptoms, it has
been known for people to get it and not have the d* and v*, but just
the cramps etc.

As for wearing his sweatshirt, you can definately rest assured that you
will get nothing sv related from that. He has to be actively
displaying signs (d* and v*) for him to be really infectious and he
will not be infectious at all before that time, and sharing of clothes
in a person not showing signs is not a risk factor.

Do the usual good health procedures, wash hands often and effectively
(sing happy birthday to yourself twice whilst washing your hands is
sufficient), definately after using the bathroom and always before
eating. If your dad does become ill, try to avoid the bathrooms
he has been using, increase the frequency of washing your hands and
don't let him prepare any food for anyone to eat. Follow these
simple rules and you should be fine.

Let us know how things progress.

Iian,

Thank you for your input! Still no v* or d* or anything. He has just been laying in bed all day long. My mom's friend told her there is a virus going around that just leaves people feverish, crampy and weak. Hopefully it won't get any worse than it is now! Thanks again

Kristina,

You are forgiven for spelling the name wrong

I have heard of a few people getting that bug with the cramps, feverish and weak. I wonder if it is some type of mild flu rather than a sv ? May also be some weakened form of sv ? Don't really know.

My husband has had the same sort of symptoms for days, but he has a sinus problem right now. For him, I think the postnasal drip is causing his stomach cramps and lack of appetite. With a SV, it usually comes on pretty suddenly, so most likely that is not what he has.

Think about it this way. Even if it is a stomach virus, you say your mom had one about a month ago and you didn't catch that one. So, even if he is sick, it really doesn't mean you will become sick yourself. Hang in there. I know it's rough.

Yeah! Don't worry too much about it because my nephews were home for
Presidents weekend, and on sunday Robert, the oldest, got the stomach
virus, I think it was the norovirus. He all of the sudden got a stomach
ache and red cheeks and fever. My sister and the other little one had
it a week before. I flipped out!!!!!! I didn't eat all week and I am
still worried that I am going to get it. My other sister caught it, but
I think she is just not half as precautious as I am. I am scared of all
of the sudden getting sick like that!!! Especially in public. I am the
worst emetephobe ever. The sound, the taste, the smell, the motions of
the body as you do it! OH my it's the worst. But then it's over, and it
was never as bad as I thought. Probably because it is over. Who knows,
I am rambling.. sorry!!!

Thank you all so much, I feel a lot better todayI had trouble falling asleep last night because I was panicky but I felt fine when I woke up. My dad still feels pretty crappy, no v* though, he's still achey and has no appetite. I guess all i can do is wait it out, wash my hands, and hope for the best! Thanks again!!!!
