Anybody ever heard of it or used it before? A teacher in California created this immune boosting formula to build up your defenses against sicknesses. It's a flavored caplet that you drop into a glass of water - it doesn't taste too bad either. Anybody ever tried it before?

yes i've taken it.
it really only works if you take it as soon as you feel
a scratchy throat or sniffles or something coming on.
and is also very comforting to take when you know
you're going out into crowded filthy germy air environments.

Yes I've tried it. It's basically an ultra dose of vitamins combined with a herbal home remedies cocktail.

It can help you feel a little better, if for no other reason than it encourages you to drink more fluids.

It says on the bottle to take every three hours though and I wouldn't
take it that much. It has about 10X the recommended daily dosage of
vitamins A and C. Vitamin C is filtered out in your unrine so all that
could really do is cause d*, but vitamin A builds up in your body and
taking extreme doses over a long period of time can make you sick.

i LOVE airbourne. i started getting a little cold one tuesday and by saturday i had the cold and it was gone. usually i'll have a cold for at least a week.

i didn't realize that taking it every 3 hours wouldn't be healthy. i don't think i had a problem with it though. no d* or anything. it definitely made me feel better, faster.

I agree, it just leaves me rest assured, especially in crowded environments.

I have heard wonders about it and as soon as I get over the flu (I have had the flu-flu for about 5 days now, including the fever of 102!), I'm getting some immediately!!! I cannot stand being sick anymore...

I'm probably alone here, but I think Airborne is just money-grabbing
junk. I would never shell out 40 dollars for those value packs,
especially when their efficacy hinges on anecdotal evidence.

The official website doesn't tell you how it works, internet articles
don't tell you how it works, and the commericals don't tell you how it
works. I don't mean that in the "it just kills stuff and boosts your
immune system" sort of way-- I mean, what organisms/viruses does it
kill? How does it kill them? How does it affect lymphocytes? What are
the active amino acids and what do they do?

Mind, if we're talking about vitamin immune boosters, why don't you
just buy multivitamins or echinacea? Not only has their function been
researched, but they won't burn holes in your pockets.

Chicajojobe is also right about the vitamins-- I peeked at the active
ingredients and was shocked by how many vitamin units those tablets
contain. Way too much. I wouldn't touch it with a ten-foot pole.

I'm really sorry for the soapbox rant, but you can keep yourself
healthy without overpriced products. Don't let them steal your money. :/

$40? Hmmm, I paid $7 in CVS for a 10 pack. Does echinacea boost your immunity from all sicknesses (not just colds)?

I have met so many teachers who swear on it! They wouldn't be able to teach without it because they would be sick. They recommend it to subs and new teachers too because they know we are at a greater risk (more germs and not used to it).

Paying 7$ is NOTHING in comparision to losing a full day of work when you don't have sick days (subbing, I get paid by the day). I'll give it a try and I am not pro-medicine at all. I have missed a full week of work this week because of the flu, which is nearly 300$.

i'll have to disagree with the 10X daily worths of vitamin c.
1,000 MG is nothing. or at least for me it isnt..

i've taken up to 5,000 when i've been ill with something..cold..whatever.

the most beneficial ingredient in airborne, in my opinion, is the shizonepta
its benefits are well known...as well as selenium. VERY important.

All I can say is that I've had great results with Airborne and I've turned a
lot of people on to it. It's best if you take it at the onset of your illness,
but you can take it after you're sick and it'll still help. Combine that with
rest, fluids and nutrients and you're on your way.

And I have to agree with Liz28. I just took 2000 MG of Vitamin C a while
ago and I regularly take 1000 at a time (2000 if I think I might be at risk
for getting sick). Sometimes I even take them with OJ for an added kick.

The official recommended daily dosage is no more than 200mg. There have
been several scientists who have written about taking more. I myself
take 1000mg per day because that's what we have at the house and I
don't feel like putting the time or money into shopping for pills with
a smaller dosage.

It wasn't really the vitamin C that's I was saying could be harmful.
Like I mentioned, excess vitamin C is simply filtered out when you pee.
There hasn't really been any proof that high doses have harmful effects
other than that they can (but not necessarily will) upset your stomach.

Overdoses of Vitamin A however can make you sick because, unlike
Vitamin C, extra Vitamin A builds up in your body.

I'm not saying don't take Airborne. I take it myself. All I'm saying is
be careful with it. Know what's in it and that in high doses it can
potentially be dangerous. What I do is when I'm in the beginnging
stages of a cold I take one citrus flavored Airborne a day dissolved in
a large glass of water, and I have found that it makes me feel better
faster. However, taking it every 3 hours like it says on the bottle is
probably too much.

Oh my! Sounds wonderful, what is it? I've never heard of it! Is it just available in States or has anyone from the UK ever tried it??

Over here we have berocca, which is a HUGE dose of vitamins and stuff, I normally take it when I have a cold, don't really think it does alot of good - would love to try airbourne!

Chally: I was referring to the value packs. I've actually never seen
this stuff anywhere but online. (Still, even at 7 dollars a pack--
which is 70 cents per tablet-- falls under insane in my book.)

And yes, echinacea is reported to be a general immune booster.

Purpleteacher: "Not used to it" as in "not immune?" If so, it doesn't
really matter-- there are over 2,000 rhinovirus serotypes alone, and
immunity to cold virus A doesn't necessarily confer immunity to cold
virus B.

If I misunderstood, ignore this comment.

Again, Chicajojobe is right about the vitamins. Taking two Airborne
tablets close to exceeds the recommended daily dose of vitamin A. Mind,
you're also acquiring vitamin A from the food you eat. Excess vitamin A
isn't filtered out in your urine-- it stays right where it is.

What it comes down to is making sure you get enough vitamins every day.
If you take more than your body needs, it isn't going to find some way
to utilize the leftovers. It takes what it needs, stores what it may
need later, and gets rid of the rest (or not, as in the case of vitamin
A, which can eventually become toxic).

Buy multivitamins and some other boosters if it strikes your fancy-- it's far less expensive, and the results will be the same.

The Airborne webpage screams pseudoscience. Be wary and save your cash.

(Btw, doesn't the average cold last for 4-6 days anyway?)

I Agree with One Who Squeaks (or 'the Squeaky One' )

I looked into this stuff because I get sick quite often, and the lack of information on how itworksis suspicious to me. It almost reminds me of those diet pills that say '100% effective- when used in conjunction with diet and exercise'. Could it be that while taking it, you are doing other things that could also reduce the likelihood of you getting ill, or how long you will stay ill? (ie- drinking fluids, staying more sedentary, being more vigilant about personal hygiene, etc.). I know that when I feel I am coming down with something my routine changes- it could easily be that you are attributing the 'benefits'to airborne, whenthey arein fact coming from elsewhere.

I think part of it's effectiveness is also psychosomatic- you think it's going to work, ergo it works.

I think I'm just going to stick with my regular multi-vite, and try to eat healthier.

i didn't think this was actually going to work either but i picked up this stuff and like i said i had a 5 day cold which is probably unheard of...for me anyway. i don't think i changed any of my daily routines. i slept the same amount, i worked, went to school...the whole 9 yards. i usually have a cold for at least aweek and with worse symptoms. i don't know...i haven't experienced any problems with it yet so i'm going to continue using it when i start feeling ill.
