Hi everyone.

I hope I'm posting in the proper forum. As the subject line says, I'm new
here. :S

My name is Crystal and I'm 23 - nearly 24. I've had emetophobia since I
was... 10, if memory serves. I've been through a variety of treatments and
medications, though most were actually focused more upon my obsessive
compulsive disorder (which, naturally, is implicitly tied to my emet). When
someone in high school pointed me to (I /think/) this site, I, like many
others, was positively shocked to find that not only was I not alone but
my deep-seeded fear had a name. It's been a while since I actually
researched emet or participated in any community discussions anywhere,
but I've been recently inspired to look again.

You see, I'm lucky enough to have an understanding boyfriend who urged
me to run 'emetophobia' through Google again (as he had done so in
order to get a better idea of what I go through). Following his advice, I've
stumbled upon this site and feel that the support offered here is nothing
short of tremendous.

As a side note... Although I told my boyfriend about my 'issues' early in
our relationship, most of them have only come to the surface this week as
he was /very/ ill from Tuesday to Thursday. I won't elaborate as you can
probably guess what I mean by '/very/ ill'. I've been trying to deal with the
resurgence of intense fear of throwing up now and reconciling it with the
fact that I want to take care of him and save /him/ from this fate that I
dread so much. It's just... Frustrating. And I've been getting more
emotional about it than I have been in a long while.

Sorry to have gone on for so long. I just wanted to give a little of my
background as well as my current situation.

Hope to get to know you all,

Crystal

HI

I havent been here long myself but also feel comfort in knowing that I am not the only one who suffers this fear! People have this phobia in different ways and some you can relate to some you can't but it is great to have all of these understanding people here who can help you in times of trouble.

Welcome!

Sorry your boyfriend was ill but he sounds a great guy who is very understanding.

Hi and thanks for the welcome, guys.

I'm very grateful for this place. The more I browse the forums, the more I
realize that I'm really not alone. Some of these experiences that I'm
reading about are painfully similar to my own. It's so wonderful that we
have this place to communicate about this phobia.

(And yeah, Neesy, my boyfriend rocks. I'm extremely lucky (as my last one
wasn't /nearly/ such a sweetheart.) Then again, I'm biased. )

Megan: Wow. Young, indeed. I feel for you as I remember being
emetophobic at that age. As with everyone on these boards, I hope to
give you all the support I can in your times of trouble.

Hi Crystal. I belonged to another emet site a few years ago, but I just found this one yesterday and I'm so glad I did. The people, the support and the information available seem tremendous, so I have a feeling we will gain so much from it. Isn't it incredible to discover that 1.) your fear or phobia actually has a name, there are so many others out there like you & that you're not a freak of nature, and 2.) that there's a place like this where we can go to connect with others like us, ask questions, share experiences, etc.?!

Yeah, I might take advantage of the fact that there are people around to
talk to. You all see like a very good lot. I'm reading through the various
forum topics as well as FAQs on other sites and it's /amazing/ to see the
number of symptoms I share with others. Symptoms that I never really
thought of /as/ symptoms previously. Thanks for the welcome.

I notice no one shares their buddy names in case someone having a hard time needs some support from this group. is there a reason for that? Kim

You mean 'buddy names' as in the buddy lists of instant message
programs?

I don't know if there's really a reason. *shrugs* Personally, I'm not on IM
programs enough to really make it useful (either to myself or to others) to
give out my screen name. Dunno if that's what you meant, but...

Thanks, Anya. I'm so glad to meet you - and everyone else here.
Already I can see what Megan meant about this place being addicting.
