Hey guys,

Is anyone else familiar with online roleplay? If not, I can provide a bunch
of links and info as I'm an absolute addict. Keeping this on topic, though,
I have an idea.

To summarize, someone that I used to play with was /huge/ on hurt/
comfort (a sort of writing in which one character is hurt or ill and needs
another character to take care of them) and tapped me for a few scenes in
which vomiting was sort of sprung. At first I didn't know what to do, so,
fighting my fears, I tried to type out appropriate responses and ultimately
ended up explaing my emetophobia to the other player.

Well, when she realized that it was a big deal to me, she started asking if I
was okay with this or that and I started forcing myself to go ahead with it,
more out of embarrassment than anything else, I think. Not a good
reason to do something, no, but it's resulted in me being largely able to
deal with reading about getting sick. As long as it's not in massive gory
detail, of course.

SO... What I'm suggesting is that we form a little RP community to try to
play out some of these fears. Like exposure therapy but without so much
of the 'ick'. Is anyone else interested?

Didn't mean to scare anyone away...

Trust me, it wouldn't be in graphic detail. Unless someone wanted
specifically to face that stuff. /I/ don't want to go into detail either. I just
thought it might be helpful to some of us.

Sure thing.

Basically, we - probably two at a time - would get together, maybe on
here if we could create a new thread, maybe on my friend's server. One of
us would take on the role of the sick individual while the other would play
the well one. And it'd go something like this:

Person A types a paragraph
Person B answers it with one of her own
Person A responds

etc.

So, perhaps Person A is the sick one. Person A might type something out
about feeling queasy. Person B might reply by comforting the person and
telling them it's alright. Or maybe by helping them into the bathroom.
Person A might... well, go from there.

It can be as graphic or tame as the participants want or can handle.

To further clarify, here're some non-emet related RP logs. I repeat, /
nothing/ to do with vomit or being ill.

http://games.groups.yahoo.com/group/...gs/message/270

One person types a paragraph, another person types the next. It's like
writing a story, but each person plays one character in it.

Does that help at all? Or have I just confused things further?Edited by: fiendish_thingy

It's a wonderful, creative idea. From reading different posts that sage has written about exposure, I would say that I've noticed her saying that a person's anxiety level needs to be kept very low on a scale of 1 to 10 (can't remember exact #'s) in order not to retraumatize the person and to help improve the phobia. Also it seems that scenarios eliciting the same anxiety level would need to be repeated until they cause the person no more anxiety. Maybe the details of the scenario could be different and the characters, but the scenario would need to be centered around a similar level of anxiety.

I don't know. These are just my thoughts, but I would be willing to do this with someone who wants to.

Cool. Well... Let's see. Should we see if we can do it on here? Or should I
talk to my friend about maybe getting a space on her server. (I should
note that I'm really not sure how certain the second option is.)

And I agree with you, Japa. It just seems like a viable alternative to the
various videos that're online. In short, as far as I'm concerned, I'm willing
to run a variety of characters and scenarios. Whatever will help - help
both me and you all.

Oh, we can also do the roleplay on chat programs. I'm going to post my
Yahoo and AOL IM screen names on the contact thread. I'm not on very
much at all, but if someone sends me a message on here - in this thread,
for example - I can arrange something.

yup its a good idea... Im not as emetophobic as i use to be because of the babysteps I took. Right now I guess you can say Im just scared of myself needing to v* and watching someone v* (not alcohol induced)and not being able to walk away from it

Yeah, I can understand that. That's pretty much where I am at this point
as well. On the topic of the RPs, though... Hm. Should we just create
another thread on here or just go at it in this thread? I can set the scene
since I proposed the idea in the first place... but I just need t'know where
to do it.
