I was curious if any of you have found a medication that is helpful, such as an antidepressant, anxiety medication, or other. I currently take BuSpar and have for years. It doesn't seem to do much for me, though.

    Hi there -

I also took Buspar for a short time and all it did was make me extremely dizzy. For occasional panic and meds that only need to be taken "as needed," many people like benzos like Xanax, Valium, Ativan and Klonopin. I have taken Xanax for 3 years and I love it - it is truly my lifesaver. No side effects except occasional drowsiness, and i feel like I can handle anything when I take it. I have found it also works great for hangovers

If there's one thing I recommend though, is that if something "as needed" isn't going to cut it, don't just start taking benzos regularly, because they are addicitve and you can build a tolerance to them. My worst nightmare would be for my Xanax to stop working, so I take a small dose only when i really really need it. My anxiety started getting bad, it was persistent and daily, so I went on Lexapro and that has taken care of my daily anxiety. I can still take Xanax in bad situations, like flying or any time I feel really anxious/sick.

Thanks for the info. I once took Valium for a dental appointment, but I thought it made me nauseous. It was probably just the fear of taking a new medication. Did you have any trouble with nausea when you first started the Xanax or Lexapro?

Benzosshould not cause nausea, if it does make someone nauseous I would venture to say that is extremely rare. Some benzos are used to treat nauseous chemo patients, so I know one of the side effects isn't nausea!!!

Some people get nausea when they start Lexapro, for the first few days. Side effects vary a lot from person to person when taking anti-depressants, but in general benzos are good to most everoyne.

I didn't have any side effects from Lexapro, but I have a pretty high tolerance. Smart doctors should prescribe a benzo to take in conjunction with the AD for at least the first few weeks until your body adjusts. The benzo can counteract any negative side effects of the AD.

    Hope this helps!!
