ugh. I know all kids v* more than adults, but I don't know how often is
just because they have little tummys or because they're sick. I went to my
sister-in-laws house and my mother in law was there too. My sister is 7
mo pregnant with twins and shes got a bad cold so we were helping her
with the house and her 18 month old daughter - who was also getting
over a cold (probably from mom). They thought she didn't want to eat
dinner because she was stuffy so they persisted to force a cheese
sandwich on her. and wouldn't you know it? *sparing graphic details*

They both know about my emet. so, why then would they hand her to me
while they clean up the mess? AUGH! and not more than 2 minutes later,
a new jar of babyfood is open and my mother in law is feeding her while
she's on my lap. I tend to be much better dealing with my emet when its
with little kids. babies and spit up doesn't bother me much, and this
whole thing would have been much worse, had she been 4 years old. But
still. My mother in law starts asking my sister if she could have cought a
sv* from so-and-so who was sick last week and was over every day this
week. Now I can't sleep thinking she has a sv* and I was playing with her
all night after that. I have a bit of a cold too and have been touching my
face all night.

sorry for my rambling, I hope this made sense. I can't sleep now and
every little thing I feel is spooking me!

If she already has a cold, a good bet is that is that she v* because of that. Dairy isn't a good idea when one has phlegm. My daughter v* when she has any kind of bug. Lovely. Did she have d*? That's always a good indicator as to whether it's a sv* or not.

My daughter is 2 1/2 and v* every time she has a hint of a stuffy/runny
nose. The drainage gags her every time.

I hate it when peopleforce kids to eat. I think that's mean and causes incidents like you had to go through!! If she didn't v* any more, then you are probably going to be FINE, if you washed your hands thoroughly then you're good to go!!!!

thank you guys. I haven't been around kids enough to know these things.
She didn't have D*, so it must have just been the cold. I didn't realize how
soft the gag reflex was for little tummys. It just makes me want to delay
having kids longer. ugh.my hands are so dry from washing them
constantly. I promise I will NEVER force my kids to eat.

sorry it took me so long to write. I couldn't get onto the forum page for
days after I wrote that and I was so distressed! ugh. for some reason, my
browser couldn't find the server. I hate when that happens. It always occurs
when you need it most too.

I hate it when people force kids to eat too. That is a pet peeve of mine.
Small children know when they are ill and should not eat (I read that in
my toddler book!) Of course this doesn't apply to picky eaters and such,
I'm just talking about viruses and such.

The last time my daughter vomited I called her pediatrician. He said that the reason many of these viruses are lasting longer these days are because we tend to feed the stomach before it's ready to digest anything. He told me with my daughter to take it very slow and not feed her until I was 100% sure the virus was through her. I had to start with a teaspoon of water every 20 minutes. It was hard because she was "starving" and begging to eat, but we did take it slow. I would have to agree, though. A friend of mine who watches her niece always feeds her when she is sick and asks for food. When this kid gets a stomach virus, it lasts for like a week. I used to fast for a couple of days after a stomach virus and have never had anything last longer than the usual 24 hours. (knock on wood).

thats really interesting. I think many mothers are scared their children will
starve to death if they dont eat every two hours. (this is what I see in my
family). Isn't it true that many children know when they're full and stop
eating from instinct? I am constantly hearing them say, "well, lets just try to
get her to eat one more."

I'm not a mom yet, so I don't know the deal.

Karenanna, you are right. LOL. They eat because they are hungry and stop when they are full. They can go a couple of days without eating solids and be fine. When my kids are sick, the first day they don't have anything but clear liquids like water, ginger ale, and maybe jello later in the day. We start rice and toast the next day (this is assuming it's a 24 hour bug) and no dairy for a couple of days. They usually get better quite quickly.

Kids aren't born with "food issues." We are not members of the Clean Plate Club at my house. If they say they are full, they are full. My hubby's grandpa always said, "It's a bigger waste (or 'waist' lol) to dump it down your gut than to dump it in the garbage."

The only exception I have is when they say they're full of supper and then 10 minutes later want ice cream or candy. Hmm...if you're hungry, finish your veggies
