Can You catch anything from handling hamsters? I'm taking care of my sister's hammy for a week...he's SO CUTE! His name is Scottie. I was just wondering if you can catch anything from them...

Aww I love love love hamsters!!! I have a gerbil, like a hamster but more hyper and with a tail. If you're really really worried about catching something then just wash your hands after handling him, but i dont think you have much to worry about!

Thanks guys, my sister said that he's a unique hamster cause he's blond. He's not white and he's not brown, he's blond...and well he's the first blond hamster I've ever seen. I don't think he likes me very much though...LoL

yes, there are a couple of things you can catch from hamsters. One being
chlamydia if you can belive it. I used to work in a childrens home and one
of my boys had a hamster who got sick and we had to have it euthanized
and sanitize everything with bleach. I think that's pretty rare. I have had
my share of hammies and mine were always fine. Just wash your hands
after you play with it. I had them for years and NEVER washed my hands
and never caught anything.

Wow! i didn't think you could catch anything from them. I used to wash my hands after handling my hamster though. But my friend once handleed him...then ate crisps (chips) and she was fine lol...she also decided to eat the chocolate buttons made for hamsters lol
