Well, as of last April I was no longer on my parents insurance,
therefore had to stop recieving therapy. Ive been fine for the last few
months, and Im living on my own now. But yesterday at work some girl
came in sick. By word of mouth I heard she said she had been sick all
day the day before and was still getting sick at work (by getting sick
you know what I mean). I didnt hear this but 10-20 minutes before my
shift was over, and I was really holding back the tears. Plus the girl
who covered my shift so I could do something on sunday said she had
been dizzy all day and had to go home, and still felt sick when she
ate. That was just too much, she was working in MY dept all day not
feeling well that day... and I hadnt known all day while I worked. I
washed my hands at lunch but not thoughroughly or used sanitizer, then
touched everything I ate! So I was a total wreck afterward yesterday. I
tried to distract myself but man... so I tried to go to the free
counseling service in town. The lady talked to me for about 5 minutes,
told me to TRY to get myself to eat, as i tend to starve myself when Im
scared, and to distract myself and maybe try to remember REBT stuff.
Every time I tried to go into the REBT, my mind immediately takes me
someplace else. Im blocking it out. Im so frustrated and scared right
now. I have to work again tonight... I really dont want to but theres
no way I can call in and miss more hours, I already gave up my sunday
shift so I could go to an event. =( I mean I guess I can try to keep my
hands clean at work but Im still going to be uncomfortable/terrified
the entire time Im there. Im sorry I guess Im just venting to those I
    know understand... thanks for reading..

    Hey Stephaine!

Good to hear from you again! Im sorry that happened. I know its always scary to hear someone around you is sick like that, cause we automatically think we're gonna get it. Well, I know its nervewracking, waiting to see if anythingsgonna happen. I too tend to not eat much when I know othersaround me have been sick. Eat light stuff, like BRAT diet things, so even if you did get it, your still treating your stomach good, and that may help. Hang in there! Keep us updated!

Well, I got to work yesterday and I was crying and basically making a
huge fool of myself. I told one of my managers my problem, she laughed
at me, thinking I was kidding, but then saw my face and knew I was
serious. So later she comes up to me and says "Dont worry, she turned
in a doctors note to me yesterday. Shes just TELLING everyone she has
the stomach flu, she really has something else thats not contagious,
but it does cause stomach pains" and I asked her if she was really
truly serious not lying to me and she said she was telling the truth.
So after that I was pretty much fine, but still cautious. But it just
made me realize, whenever this happens, whats going to happen to me? Im
going to be awful all winter long Im sure. I dont want to lose my job..
now Im sure theres a few people there that are worried about me acting
that way again, too... Im trying for a full time position thats opening
up and theyll probably consider that and I may not get it now. I feel
    like such a fool...

aww hun. BIG HUGS. I was going to post and tell you that the illness might have been from something other than a stomach bug, but I guess I am too late.
I thinkwere brave for telling your boss so that she understands you better. Get a flu shot in the fall if you can and I am sure that will help out tons. The stomach flu really isn't that common if you think about it, I know people that will tell the boss or people that it is but its because they were out drinking, or they are sick from being over tired, their period, something they ate, migraines, allergy or bad reaction to a food they ate, medical conditions, lack of eating and so MANY other things.
If you have a compassionate, understanding boss I don't think that you will have to worry I am sure they won't withhold a job you are qualified for because of this incident.

Melikasa is 100% right Stephanie!!! I think it was EXTREMELY brave of you to go up to yourmanager and tell her about your phobia!!!! That girl could've been having stomachproblems for millions of other reasons other than a bug, like Melikasa mentioned!! Kudos to you though on speaking up like that!! I don't think I would be able to do that like you did!!!

Also, I think now that yourmanager is aware of the phobia and it's severity, she will be more understanding to you and your needsif you ever feel uncomfortable at work again. So please don't feel like a fool!!! You did the right thing!!
