Hi everyone....I'm new here!! I've always known I've had this
phobia but was never aware until I did a search that there were so many
other people out there like me and I'm so happy to have found this
    site!!

    My question is this:

My brother last night came down with a stomach bug. He's been
vomiting now for almost 24 hours. We live in a close space
(basement apartment) and I'm TERRIFIED that I'll catch this from
him. I'm almost at the point where I don't want to even go home
from work today and I'm considering cancelling plans tonight "in case"
I'm out and I start feeling sick.

I've been washing my hands like crazy and this morning I sprayed Lysol
all over the sink, toilet and door handle in the washroom.

I'm wondering how likely it is that I'll catch this bug from my brother
and what else I can do to prevent myself from catching it?

    Thanks guys!!

    Hi Kimm992,
Welcome to our site. All I can say is GOOD HANDWASHING!!! It is trasmitted fairly easily, but if you practice good hygiene, you can avoid it. Also wash the bathrooms, doorknobs, anything you can think of with Lysol or the equivalent. And open the windows to let fresh air in. Good luck.

You know what? If you DO catch it, you have a good chance of not actually v*ing! I have heard of so many emets who only get d* with the bug. I had an sv* in Feb, which I have never had before in my life, and only had mild d*. My parents were both very n* and v*ing.

Keep washing your hands and stay away from your brother is possible.

Good handwashing is needed!Stomach viruses aren't airborne but are transmitted easily thru personal contact so just practice good hygiene.

    Thanks everyone!!!

Well it's Saturday now and my brother isn't sick anymore and so far my
dad is fine and I'm fine as well. I've been washing my hands like
crazy and trying to stay as far away from my brother as possible.

He got sick on Thursday night so how much longer until you think I'm in the clear?

    (I'm in Toronto, Ontario btw)
