Okay, so does anyone know about using manure in the vegetable garden, and the spread of bacteria? My MIL continually dumps manure in her veg garden, and I'm a little worried about the germs infecting the vegetables. (We live next door, and I'm worried she might feed my kids something from the garden, which might make them ill.)

Well I don't know much about it, but I do know that it can't be too dangerous because pretty much all farms which produce the fruit and vegtables you buy in the grocery store use natural fertilizer (ie: manure).

I think that as long as it's manure which is actually sold as fertilizer, the kind that's from cattle, it's probably alright. Obviously you'll want to wash the vegtables first, however.

I think it's horse poop. She gets it from a friend. I think the stuff you buy at the store is processed in some way to make it less germy, tho I could be wrong about this.

My mom actually plants her tomatoes in a big pile of horse poop (she has
horses) none of us have ever gotten sick. I would just wash thoroughly
