It is almost May 18th here in Baltimore (by the weather you would think it is March). The sv is making its way into our town AGAIN. For about a week, I hear of nothing. In fact, my son'sweekly school health bulletingealth noted last week thatsv's were gone (first time since November). Well guess what? They are back and accounting for several absences. My daughter had several people out in her class today at her school. Usually by this time of year, we are so done with this s**t (no pun intended).

    I say ENOUGH ALREADY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, this year, only 1 school closed cause of a sv*. Last year there were a ton more. This season seems to be lasting much longer though!! IT NEEDS TO STOP!!

I agree with you Daffodil - I think this year has been REALLY bad. We're still dealing with it here in the St. Louis area as well. I'm usually acting like a "normal" person by this time of year!

    Julie,
Where in Ohio do you live/teach?
What grade do you teach? That must drive you nuts. How do you deal?

I am in a small town south of Cleveland. I teach 2nd grade and am
hoping to have a new job next year teaching special education with 3 and
    4 year olds.

It can certainly drive an emet. crazy!!!! I can't even begin to tell you how
many times a day I hear, "My tummy hurts!!!!" It is quite a challenge!! I
mostly deal because I can rationalize that I've heard it a million times and
can count on 2 hands that it has actually been a sv* in the past 12 years!!

But, I had a little guy this week who was not feeling well...sent him to the
nurse and she sent him home with a fever. The next day, he is back and
tells me his is all better. But, by the end of the day, he is miserable and
has a fever again. He wasn't at school today and I got word that he was
out with hand, foot, mouth. I was actually kind of excited because it
wasn't a sv*. However, one little girl in my class was s* all weekend with
v*. She came back and has gone home early 2 days this week with n*. I
wish that I could tell the parents to just keep her home! The mom told
her that she could only call home if she actually v*!!!!!! I don't get it!!!

I, too, am usually feeling home-free by this time of year. Not this year!

Wow. I don't know how you manage. I am in Lakewood by the way : )

I can't believe that parents will send their second graders in so sick. What is the deal with that? I feel bad for the kids as I am sure they would rather be home resting. You don't have any authority over this issue? I would just send them to the nurse all day! LOL! I don't know if it's the same today as it was when I was in elementary, but they had cots there and I rememeber sleeping there while I waited for my mom.

Hi neighbor!! My dad grew up in Lakewood and we still have some
friends who live there! Small world for sure!

I have informed my school nurse of my phobia (as well as the whole staff
in case of emergencies), but there is only so much that they can do. I
think that so many working parent's don't have child care options, when
their kids are sick. They might not be able to take off work themselves. I
understand, but when it happens with me and my own children, I find a
way to be here.......frustrating to say the least!

I love my job so much, but it adds to my anxiety every minute of every
    day!
