I was just wondering if any one can tell me how to go about councelling and if it actually helps?
Sage... did you do councelling? if so how long did it take for you to be totaally cured?

I just started counseling yesterday for the third time. I think the key is to find a therapist that you like and understands your problem. I think I've finally found the right one for me. It's too early to tell, though.

Abbey, go along to your GP and tell him how you are suffering , s/he will refer you to see somebody such as a psychologist. If you go through the NHS it's all free but you may have to wait a while before you are seen - your doctor will probably be able to tell you the approximate waiting time.

Definitely go with therapy/counselling - so many people here have been helped by it, and a few cured!

I started counselling years ago, it went to hell. I went back to the same place maybe a month ago and finally found someone who I felt comfortable with. That is the key, feeling comfortable with that person because if you don't its not worth it. About completly getting over the phobia, depends on your therapist and you. Could take a year could take 5. I think it is very hard to put a time on it.
For me I want my gone before fall comes, maybe it will, maybe it wont but I am hell bent of doing it. There is more to my therapy and I will share the full story with the forum when I feel it is complete.

Hey - good question. AT the top of this Treatments section is a sticky post about how to get professional help - give it a read. On the Experiences thread is a sticky post called "Stories of being cured of emetophobia" - my story is the first one!

    Good luck!
