Thread: Salad?

    Hey,

    so second time ive posted today,not having a very good one at all,so if anyone isnt fed up of my whining just need some reasurance.

    I had a salad there,with lettuce leaves cold pasta tomatos and celary with philidelphia cheese and a little bit of baranston pickle.

    Now there wasnt alot of salt to wash my lettuce and celary with so I dont think personally it was washed properly,I washed it under cold water a few time and satit in a bowel with cold water and as much salt as there was left only rally a few grains and washed it again, im just so worried this is going to give me food poisoning or make me v*

    Help?

    You washsed it, so you should be fine. Does salt kill more germs? I have not heard of washing veggies with salt in the water. I just wash them in plain water. Vinegar is antibacterial, so you could use that too, in the future. I'm sure you're fine, though. Don't worry.[img]smileys/smilies_01.gif[/img]

    you know, Im guilty of not even washing my lettuce - even thought I know I should - And I've never gotten ill.


    I eat salads daily. I hate the way the water makes the lettuce all soggy - I really need to invest in a salad spinner.


    water is fine -you don't need salt.

    Have you heard of Dehlia Smith - the cook? I watched one of her programmes once and she said never to wash lettuce, but just to wipe any bits off gently with a damp cloth, otherwise the leaves don't hold the dressing well when you add it as it goes too soggy.


    So a quick rinse with plain cold water will be absolutely fine!
