Well, I decided to eat cheese that has been untouched for about a week...wrapped up, but not tight. It is black diamond, old cheddar...It smelled weird and really strong, and didn't taste right. No hardness or mold. but I had a bad feeling about it. I of course looked up al sorts of fp's and scared myself, thinking what if I touched it last week with dirty hands and then it has had all week to grow bacteria...I am freaking out, please help...

Do you have any Cilantro?,.....you could eat some which decreases your risk of food posion,.....but honestly, I think you will be fine. Cheese just happens to be my favorite food and its one thing I have taken chances with. I have been at parties and eaten cheese that was warm from being out so long and I was fine. Its the only food I have ever taken risks with and I have never gotten sick!!!

I think you're ok. Black Diamond is extremely strong and smelly at the best of times. It doesn'tmean there's anything wrong.

Cheese is fine - I would actually cut the mould out and still eat it!

I agree w/ the others, cheese tends to stay "good" for quite some time.

suze, I've actually heard you can do that and be ok! OMG you're so brave lol I mean I know it's OK to do but geez, I'm a chicken hehe.

Hard cheese, like cheddar,is almost always safe. It's the soft cheses you have to worry about.

Hi Carolee... don't worry about the cheese. I have cut mold and dried parts off cheese and eaten it before. I think I've even eaten some that had a bit of mold on it... not the nasty fuzzy stuff... but just a bit of white powder looking stuff. Yeah, that's gross, but I wanted some cheese, and I was fine. I've done that with cheddar and swiss.
