My husband came down sick with something today - not sure what it is though. I'm really trying to not let this phobia control my actions. Probably it is just a sinus infection or something, but he had "that look" about him tonight.

I did read an article once that stated that in a particular study, family members who shared a bed with other family members who were sick with a sv were more likely to catch it than others. I would imagine the same would be true for non-stomach illnesses.

Would it be a total emetophobe thing to do to sleep in the guest bed while he is sick?

I don't want to make him feel like an outcast because he is not feeling well (plus, our bed is so much more comfortable!), but we are leaving on a really nice vacation on Friday and I really don't want this to be one of those things that gets spread around the family for two weeks, whatever it is.

I think if it were not the timing, I would try to control the fear and not do the the usual "ritual" things like excessive cleaning or total avoidance.

I would sleep in the guest bed! I wouldnt feel bad about it either. I am sure your family will understand that you dont want to get sick (with anything) right before a vacation.

I would sleep in the guest bed. When my husband is sick I sleep on the couch. I think he would understand.

Yeah I'd sleep in the other room too. Doesn't sound tummy related but like you said who wants to be any kind of sick especially on vacation. I know nonphobes who dont sleep in the same bed when one is sick.

I always sleep in the same bed as my bf...and I dont think it really matters if they have a sv* because it is not airbourne, right? But I wont kiss him if he has colds, because i dont want to get them, and vise versa.

I don't know about this study. I have lived with my husband for over 3 years and I have been sick more than he has been, and he has NEVER caught anything from me. We've even been intimate with each other when I've had bronchitis or a cold. I think it all depends on an individuals immune system. Whenever I was sick as a child I slept in my parents bed and they never caught anythign from me. Isn't that weird?

I have had sv* before and slept in the same bed and my husband did not catch it.
