    Default Robitussin DM question?

This is kind of a random question but I wasn't sure where else to put this
I've had a productive cough for a couple of days and thinking about taking some Robitussin DM along with drinking the fluids to help loosen it up. I'm just always nervous about taking new meds even OTC ones. I keep hearing that one of the main ingredients, guaifenesin, can make people sick so naturally I'm a little freaked out to try it. Has anyone else ever tried this? Does it really make you sick or it is when you take more than your supposed to? Just trying to save myself the trouble of going through that

    Default Re: Robitussin DM question?

I've had Guaifenesin before, and while it can give you a tummy ache if you take it on an empty stomach, for me it's more just like Motrin that way (hurts if you take it on an empty stomach, doesn't if you don't, but either way probably won't make you n* let alone v*). The thing that always worried me about Robitussin is the taste! Yuck! I can only take the pills

I think you'll be fine with the RDM, although you could just take Mucinex instead of the Robitussin compound (my parents, who are doctors, always tell me that if you have a productive cough it's because you need to get the sputum up, so even if dextromethorphan (Robitussin) worked to stop cough - which is dubious - you'd be best off just taking something to loosen the secretions so you COULD cough them up). This is just my personal opinion though, you certainly can take the Robitussin DM, and I don't think it should bother your stomach if you take it with plenty of food.

    Feel better!

(BTW: where in PA are you from, if you don't mind me asking? you can PM me )
